CHAPTER ONE a gay in straight's clothing
Every girl has always dreamt of having a prince that you fall in love with. Especially one that has saved you from a wicked witch, or a thousand years cursed into slumber. Every girl, and Patrick too. But Patrick was a boy, and that was unacceptable, in 1868. For Patrick, his prince was Jason Rhodes. His ex-best friend from high school who is now his boss. Patrick hasn't since forgotten his secret relationship with Jason when they were at school, he hopes that circumstances would be different by now since society has also changed. Yet, Jason is still in denial with his sexuality and is still fearful of being rejected, especially from his parents who are raging homophobes. Also, Jason has a wife. A happy, loving wife ; who he doesn't love and two children, who don't have the slightest clue of his hidden life.
" So, Patricia, anybody you find particularly interesting lately?" Sonia asks curiously. Patricia had recently broken up with her boyfriend, who she found quite comfortable with his assistant at a gay club the other night. Since then, she had been in complete depression and heartbreak but now is suddenly turning up to school/work, completely normal again.
"No, not really." Patrick had quickly shot down the conversation, making Sonia more persistent.
"Oh, c'mon. There must be someone. " she coos. Patrick begins to become suspicious. Perhaps she must've heard something?
"No, I'm wanting to be more focused with my teachings and helping the students further. I- mean last year's GCSEs result were absolutely atrocious!" He laughs, trying to close the topic.
"Well, there's got to be someone. Your grieving periods last for months! Remember when you broke up with Gary?" she continues.
"Okay Sonia, be honest. Where is this coming from?"
"I know you've been secretly seeing Jason." There is a moment of silence between the two. Patrick is completely shocked at her statement.
"W-w-what?"
"Oh, don't act all innocent. I caught you two.....in the LIBRARY!!!"
"Sonia, this is a bit insane, don't you think?"
"Insane? What's insane is that you are having an affair with our boss! Who has a wife?!"
"Sonia, I am begging you. Don't report us."
"Okay, I won't. Unless, you finish whatever this is."
"Sonia, you know I can't do that..."
"Oh hell to whatever you want! You are finishing this whether you like it or not, otherwise you can lose your job."
Patrick looked at his best friend in devastation, what caused her to act this way? Ever since they met, they clicked. But now, here they are, she's threatening him to give up his happiness in order to keep his career. It wasn't just him who was about to lose in this situation. His lover, and boss, also had his job on the line. If he let Sonia rat him out, Jason would never speak to him again. Then again, if he ended things with Jason, he still wouldn't want to see each other. No matter what, Patrick would always lose. He had no choice.
