I'm Genevieve, 20, a uni student. I'm doing a drama course and someday I want to be an actor, but I don't know where to begin. For the summer I signed up to the BBC internship position, it gave me something to do, even if it is just making tea for stuffy news staff.
It's the 31st of August 2002, 9am, a Saturday, but unlike most my age I'm not sleeping off a hangover from a Friday night out. I'm pouring a cuppa for Alastair Finighan, a man who is never happy.
"If I wanted tea this milkey, I'd just drink straight from a cow!" Mr Finighan shouted across the news set. His old, thin, papery cheeks turned red.
"And this is sugar, where is my low calorie sweetener?" Anna Walker, the news co-host appeared behind me.
"Maybe, it's more to your taste"
Miss Walker, towering over me in her 9 inch heels, stretched her arm over my head and poured the tea all over me.
Every presenter and crewmember in the room immediately burst into a chorus of laughter. I sighed and walked off to grab a towel, this wasn't exactly unusual behaviour from them.
When I came back still dabbing the tea from my blouse, I heard a few of the bosses talking.
"Oi, Genevieve"
"Yes sir?" I replied
"Get down to the CBBC department, there's this weird new show being run by a couple of nutters that needs an extra pair of hands. I'm sure you'll fit right in" he ordered with a slight sneer.
"Yes, sir" I turned to walk towards the lift.
"Good riddance" The other boss said.
I'd never been to the CBBC department before, I knew it had been expanded recently as it had just gotten a whole channel to itself.
I just hope the people down there will be kinder.
