"I'm not doing all the work."
- LexusThird Person Pov:
The sound of Brooke's alarm from her phone sounded through her bedroom, waking her up. She groaned as she sat up to stretch, slipping out of bed. The cold floor made her shudder from the contact, but she made her way into the bathroom, staring blankly into the mirror. She picked up her toothbrush, and proceeded to brush her teeth, while staring at her reflection. Once she finished, Brooke left the bathroom and went back into her room to decide what to wear for the day. Reaching into her closet, she went for a simple outfit, throwing it on and heading downstairs into the dining room for breakfast. Her parents as well as her twin sister, Alyssa, were already sitting at the table and chatting when she walked in.
"Good morning, Brooke!" her mother chimed in, a smile on her face. "Morning." Brooke replied, her voice still expressing her drowsiness as she yawned, taking a seat next to her father, who seemed disinterested in the family affairs, and was instead reading an article on his phone, the occasional nod here and there. "What's for breakfast mom?" Alyssa asked, smiling up at her mother who didn't answer her question instead served the meal, taking a seat herself. Brooke was the first to finish her food and got up from the table to put her dishes away. She checked the clock on the wall and noticed that it was nearly time to leave. Waving goodbye, she stepped out of the door and made her way down the street.
The air around her was crisp and cool, as the breeze blew through her hair. Her feet crunched against the crisply fallen leaves on the ground as they broke against her boots. The trees were painted shades of red, orange, yellow, and brown as the feeling of Autumn just settled in. Brooke looked up at the trees as she trekked down the sidewalk, the sounds of cars passing by flooding her ears. "Another day, another soul crushing experience." she thought to herself, as she approached the school's building and walked up the front staircase and through the doors.
Taking in the air around her, she sighed heavily and walked through the halls in order to make it to class on time. To her shock, she was the first to arrive and took her seat, putting her head down. The sounds of other students chatting and laughing filled the room as other students entered the classroom and took their seats around her, mentally making her groan and keep her head down. Suddenly, she felt someone tap her shoulder and she looked up to see Lexus standing behind her, a concerned look on their face. "Are you okay?" they asked, seeming worried for her and checking in to make sure that Brookw was doing alright, despite getting off on the wrong foot the previous day.
Brooke merely shook her head in response, choosing not to say anything in hopes they'd go away, which they did after around a minute of assessing her body language and leaving to sit down, allowing Brooke to slowly peek her head up, her hair covering her face. The teacher then enters the classroom and begins the lesson, his voice monotone and seeming as If he didn't want to deal with several teenagers in one room so early in the morning. While he spoke, Berooke was halfway paying attention, her eyes wandering around the room in search of something else to look at. Her eyes landed on Evelyn, who caught her gaze, and scrunched up her nose, turning away from Brooke.
Brooke Pov:
The girl from yesterday glanced back at me, when she caught my eyes staring at her. She proceeded to look away, turning up her nose and focusing on the lesson in front of us. Personally, I believe that doing that wasn't really necessary for just looking in her direction, but I can't really do anything about it. "She's such a snob." I think to myself, before turning my head to look at the teacher as he goes on about comma splices and whatever it is English classes go on about. From the sense of boredom around me, I close my eyes to take a nap and when they open, class is just finishing and I quickly pack up my things.
I'm the first student out of the door and take a quick stop by my locker, hearing a familiar voice behind me and I promptly turn around. It was the guy from yesterday who bumped into me, I think his name was Gray but I wasn't sure. "Hi. Do you need anything?" I ask, my voice flat. He looks around before speaking,"I just wanted to apologize for bumping into you yesterday". I sigh and tell him that there was no harm done and that everything was fine. He smiled at me before turning to leave. This gesture made me feel a mix of emotions ranging from confusion to joy. No one has ever looked at me that way before and It felt really good. As if it happened in a flash, the bell signaling I was late for class rang and I groaned before heading off.
Third Person Pov:
When Brooke entered the classroom, she heard a voice call her to sit by them, It was Lexus. Since there was nowhere else to sit, she sat down next to them, but avoided any form of communication. She still didn't know how to feel about them and wondered if their kindness was all an act. However, she decided no to focus too heavily on it and looked up toward the teacher. Her chemistry teacher explained that they'd be doing a lab with the person of her choice. To her shock, she was paired with Lexus and Brooke felt like she wanted to swear. She raised her hand and asked if it was possible for it to be a single person project and was promptly denied that request.
She sighed and turned in her chair to Lexus to ask if they'd just do the project alone and stick her name on it. They looked at her, puzzled and seemed almost offended that Brooke didn't want to work with them and insisted that they work together because it was a partnered project and that they won't be doing all the work because she doesn't like them. Brooke's eyes narrowed before shouting in the middle of the room, "I DON'T WANT TO WORK WITH YOU!". This caught the attention of the teacher and she pointed to the door and insisted that Brooke pay a visit to the principal's office. Rolling her eyes, Brooke got out of her seat and left the lab, heading to the front office and taking a seat in one of the chairs until her name was called. Once she heard her name, she stood up and entered the principal's office and sat down to face the woman.
"Why are you here?" the woman asked, her head resting on her hands, her eyes sharp and glaring daggers into Brooke's soul. Brooke explained the situation, the principal raising an eyebrow at her before sighing and speaking again. "You're telling me you had an outburst in class because you wanted to work with someone you don't like." She questioned, to which Brooke nodded. "Well, life isn't always about what you want, sometimes you have to work with people that you won't get along with." She explained, making Brooke feel slightly awful for how she'd acted and said she'd be willing to work it out.
The principal nodded before sending her back to class and once she got back, she took a seat and formally introduced herself. "My name is Brooke. Sorry for being rude, let's start on the project." she said, holding out her hand for Lexus to shake. They happily took her hand and shook it. What they were unaware of was that Brooke had her fingers crossed behind her back. As they discussed the subject for some time, the bell rang and they had to go their separate ways.
Sooner than possible, the school day came to an end and Brooke was one of the first students out of the doors. She'd scheduled for Lex to visit her house the next day to "work " on the project. In addition, she'd gotten their number and continued her way home, the air was warm and made her feel good. Once she'd gotten home, her mother asked how her day was. Brooke dropped her bag on the floor and merely said it was okay and went up to her room to flop on her bed, thinking of what to do next, staring up at her ceiling.
A/N: Yea it's shorter but who cares??
