Lorelei's POV:

Nik Freya and Hayley are all standing in the kitchen when I walk into the house. They look a million times happier than they did when I saw everyone earlier. That's a good sign.

"What'd I miss?" I ask
"Elijah is home and is now on the mend thanks to Freya." Nik says a smile
"Good. Is he alright?"
"He was dealing with memory issues when he was found earlier. It took awhile but I managed to break the spell that was in place."

Sounds like he's going to be fine.

"Miles?"

Hayley shakes her head.

"Only found Elijah. No sign of Miles."

Days turned into weeks and we never caught Miles or anyone else who could've been responsible for attacking Elijah.

Nik and I are walking down the street staring at the holiday lights. I never understood the meaning of holidays but Rebekah loved them.

I stare at the red and green lights as they twinkle. They're wrapped around banisters and poles in town. I sip my hot chocolate, another human thing I've grown to love and take Nik's hand as we go across a corner.

There's a party going on inside Rousseau's. Musicians play Jingle Bells as we walk. Wherever you go, you can hear Christmas music playing in every street of the city.

It's one of the things I found to enjoy about the holidays. That and all the decorations.

I smile as I think back to my first Christmas in New Orleans. Nik and I had been checking out some of the sights. I watched as a group of witches lit a star on top of a large pine tree coated with fake snow and multicolored balls.

Flashback:

"Those are pretty." I say

"The original decor was apples, candy canes and pastries made into little shapes." Nik says staring at the tree as the light catches making the colorful orbs sparkle

I turn from the tree to Nik.

"What are candy canes?" I ask

We head into Rousseau's where I try hot chocolate for the first time. I am not warned to blow on it and temporarily burn off my taste buds. I immediately set the cup down and inhale sharply at the heat.

"Shit that's hot." I say

Nik walks back over to me with a red and white striped cane and hands it to me.

Candy cane.

"Thank you." I say and stick it in my mouth

I wince at the strong taste of it.

"Wow. It's uhh..."
"You hate it don't you?"
"Yeah."

I toss it into the trash and take another swig of my hot chocolate. I'm getting used to the burn.

I kinda like it.

Nik and I sip on hot chocolates as we stare out the windows of the busy bar. It's a bit more crowded in here than I would like. I think he can see it on my face so he suggests we head out. I nod and we take off back into the street.
