That night, Nikolai started to deviate a plan. He had an idea that would make Serena no longer his soulmate. He hated that she made him feel so unsure and had him go red for no reason.

There had to be something that he could do.

It would be a risky idea though.

The next morning, he walked into the academy and noticed that a girl had fallen down after tripping on her shoelace.

"Are you ok?" He held out his hand to her.

"Oh goodness! Me? Yeah, I-I'm fine!" The girl was in a scramble to pick up her books.

"Here, let me help you." He picked up the books and grabbed her hand.

"Thank you!"

"Of course."

He was about to turn away.

"Wait! What's your name?"

Bingo.

"Me? Nikolai. Is there anything that I can assist you with, my lady?"

The girl instantly blushed red.

"Actually, I'm new to this academy and I might need some help getting to my first lecture, if you don't mind?"

"Say less. I'll take you there."

"Great!"

He held his hand out and she took it.

"Oooooh!" She started to feel butterflies in her stomach.

He walked her to her lecture hall and she gazed into his eyes.

"Thank you so much, Nikolai! If you ever need anything, my name is Tiffani."

Nikolai nodded and both of them went their separate ways.

In the meantime, Nikolai started to feel the pieces of the puzzle come together. Hopefully Tiffani would understand his situation. She seems naive.

At the end of her first class, Nikolai was waiting right there for her.

"Why hello there, Nikolai!"

"Hello again."

She extended her hand out again.

"May you?"

"Maybe." He started teasing with her a little, but soon slipped his hand into hers.

"I have to go to Academy Etiquette, but it seems like it's on the other side of the academy."

"Let me show you a trick."

He snapped his fingers and they arrived at the class in a snap.

"That is awesome! How do you do that?"

Nikolai giggled.

"It's just some basic magic. You'll learn how to do it next year."

"You are really something else!"

He stared at her and had a smirk on his face.

"I guess you can say that. It's nothing special."

She started to get closer to him.

"I don't know if you are a dream or not, because it feels like you aren't real."

He chuckled.

"Well, how can a ghost or an illusion hold your hand?"

"Maybe I'm thinking I'm lost in a story that I have read one day."

"It's all real, Tiffani. All real."
