Prologue

In a brick-like cabin, somewhere deep in the middle of Ivy Forest, a witch named Cassandra Miles gives birth to a child during a dark stormy night. She gives birth to a daughter and name her...Helen. And like any mother, Cassandra is a proud mother, considering she is growing up to an extraordinary young lady and has a talent for magic. One, no one has ever seen. One day, and right before Helen turned 16 years old. Cassandra saw something unusual lurking around their cabin and eyeballing on Helen. She didn't mind it really, considering she knew it was Helen's new guardian. A guardian named James

As legend goes, every new magical being has a guardian, where his or her eventually will give a gift to those they are protecting as they take on their magical journey. Though, overtime Cassandra notice something odd in James, something mysteriously unusual for a guardian. Part of it is because both Helen and Cassandra are supposed to know what kind of supernatural James is, but he never did tell them. Instead, he shows them, by transforming into his human form.

"Until her birthday," he says.

He is handsome for sure, a young boy about Helen's age, if not one year older. Dark brown hair and blue eyes. Nevertheless, he is someone to keep an eye on. The day came, it is her birthday, and she's with James walking deep in the forest.

"Helen!" Cassandra called, searching for her everywhere and couldn't find them. "Now, where on Earth are those two."

She continued walking for about 2 miles, searching, but couldn't find them at all. It is Exactly what James wanted, considering he has something very special for Helen. A special gift for her birthday, considering it is part of his job as guardian. To give her something which eventually help her in life. In this case, it is a marking representing his kind.

"Happy Birthday," he says.

"Thank you," Helen says, as her cheeks blushes and tuck away a bit of her hair.

"Helen, I brought you here, because I want to give you something that has been given to me when I was a kid," James states. Helen pays attention and notices James drops his right hand and with his left he lifts his sleeve to show her his tattoo of a black cat. "This is the marking of my kind. As you can see, I am a Shadow Cat Shifter. And I was drawn to you because of your growing magic. And I want to help you with that."

James drew closer to her and holds her two hands. Then he places his forehead with hers. "There's another reason I was drawn to you, Helen," She starts to shiver within her breathe. "You're my mate"

"I don't know what to say to that," James kissed her on the lips. Then pressed harder on her lip, making her moan.

"Helen!" James heard and recognized the voice. It is Cassandra. "Helen, where are you?!"

He continues and ignores Cassandra's calls. However, the calls grew stronger.

"No, I need a little more time," he whispers, using his magic to cover themselves in darkness. It was soundproof and no one can see them. Not even Cassandra, considering she just walked pass them. After the kiss, Helen looked around and notice the shadows surrounding them.

"Was this your doing?" James nodded. "Why?"

"Because I needed time to give you, your birthday present and your mom was looking for you. This kind of gift you wouldn't want someone around."

"What?! Why didn't you say anything?" Helen tries to walk through the darkness. However, every time she does, she only returns to the same area. "What?"

"You can't escape from this Helen, not after I give you, the mark. Once you received your mark, I can set you free," James says, Helen looks at him nervously. Watches him walk towards her and grabs her by the arm. He then pulls her close for the perfect spot to put the tattoo. "Now for your gift, my mate," he says. When he found the right spot for the mark, his eyes lit up and smiled widely. "Perrfect."

It is on her right arm as he places his left hand pressed down on it. His hand starts to glow a white and sparkling light. "Ow, that's hot," she says.

"It's suppose to be," James says, as Helen watched was happening to her. After removing his hand. The white light taking shape of cat. It later darkens and a black smoke came bursting out of the tat. Surrounding covering her in a pitch fog. It circled her until it is shaping into a ball. James couldn't tell what is at first but smiled when he sees it transforming her into a Shadow Cat herself. As the fog lift up, it reveals her new cat form and continues to smile.

He picks her up to pet her. She purrs as he continues and looks down. "Now my love, I knew you were able to handle this magic. I'm so proud. Although, this isn't your everyday magic, isn't it, my love?" Helen wasn't paying attention to a word he says, considering she was enjoying his attention that she's enjoying his attention. "No, this magic is far beyond what to expect, your new ability is like your magic, you need training, my love. I'm sorry to say that you won't be returning to your mother today of all days." Helen looks at him and starts to meow. "Yes, my love that's right. Enjoy your time as a cat until you get to school and soon you won't need your old life anymore, love. You will be free. Forever."

Helen rubbed her body against his chest, making him chuckled and spoke. "Seems that you are already enjoying this new form, aren't you?" He then moved his free hand around to make the darkness disappear and out to the open, where he can hear Cassandra calling for Helen in the distance. "Well, my love, shall we say goodbye to your mother?" He asked Helen as she too was listening to her mother's calling. James looks down at Helen and notice that she too was listening to it. "Very well, let's go home."
