The time was now. The murder of Emily had been solved. Joe Streeter is in prison, the only serial killer in the town for years. That was my job, solving murders, without a killer to be arrested I'm nobody. I wasn't surprised when Marshal Tom Chestrel walked in to my office, he was the Marshal assigned to the Detectives agency. I knew what he wanted. So I started packing my things and leaving.
"Not so fast Sterling" He ordered, I was confused, but listened to him. "We have another murder, just north of here, Ravencrest Manor, are you familiar with it?"
"No I am not, Ravencrest? North of Here? I haven't left the district for murders in ages, why now?" I proclaimed in curiosity. As he walked towards the door he gave me a side-eye that told me "This case is keeping your job Sterling" I didn't say anything and went about.
When I got home I contacted my partner,
Maria Ramirez . She was a natural at murder cases, last time I had nothing, but she managed to pull ends together and narrow it down to 2 suspects, I'm surprised she hasn't taken my job yet! She grew up in Puerto Rico, in what the poor citizens call "The Kingdom" in San Juan, her richness allowed her to migrate to the US, and later, Maine. Most of the French people relocated to Quebec where their culture was "Respected"Later that day me and Maria met at Restaurant Gourmand Marie Delequre, one of the few French restaurants in Solaz County, "I like it here," She said quaintly, "This place is fake, every last French Person except Marie left. They say their culture is blown to bits here." I said defensively. What followed was a blur of fake French waiters and bus boys and the noise of a bustling downtown restaurant. "So uh, what about the uhm, the murder?" She said to break the silence. "Chestrel wants me to head north to a place called Ravencrest manor"
I slid a newspaper towards her, news spreads quickly here. So it was already on the news. "A boy named Alex Revire. Sweet little boy. Killed in the night." I said "Last case was tough, sure even we can do it together, Ben?" She asked
"I don't know, but your honestly better than me," I said admittedly. "Well let's see what we can do" She said, we finished our meal and headed back to the office to gather what we have.
