Rebekah's POV:
Unfortunately with no way of really tracking Lorelei, I spent some time going through her things. I know it was an invasion of privacy but I had no other options. She could be anywhere and Nik was in a bad mood but hopeful.
I didn't want to tear that away from him.
Where to look next?
I spot her journals on her bookshelf.
Bloody perfect.
After flipping through a few, I find exactly what I'm looking for. Awhile back, Lorelei talked about a list of places she'd lived. She wrote about where she'd go next, what the weather was like, etc.
The ones she loved had a star next to them. The unvisited ones had a question mark.
I scan down the list.
• Rocky Mountains
• Crater Lake
• Appalachian Mountains
• Mount Bona
• Yellowstone National Park
I snap a picture of the list with my phone and take off to the first mountain.
Need to start somewhere and she went everywhere she could.
I lump onto a halfway fallen tree, caught on the limb of another, trying to keep the noise to a minimum as I look out into the dense forest.
Nothing.
I move deeper into the woods as quickly as possible but still find nothing.
Pulling out my phone, I check the list.
If she's not on any of these...
A branch snaps behind me and I whip around.
I gasp when I see the bright yellow eyes staring at me through the darkness. A low growl escapes the wolf's throat.
A warning.
I stand still, unsure if it was a regular wolf or perhaps another werewolf living in the area.
As it steps closer, the moon illuminating the black fur. It stops about a yard away, taking me in.
A werewolf bite won't kill an Original.
Nik bit Elijah once, in a rage.
He described it to me as a living through a nightmare. You're plagued with horrid hallucinations as the venom destroys every cell in your body as it moves towards your heart.
I watch as the wolf transforms and Lorelei steps out into the moonlight.
"How the hell do you guys keep finding me?" Lorelei demands
She stands there eyeing me skeptically with her arms crossed.
"What the hell do you want Rebekah?"
"To talk."
She scoffs at this and gestures around us.
"You traveled 624 miles to talk?"
I hear the howl of wolves in the distance.
"I'm not going back to New Orleans."
"What is it that's keeping you away? We're family Lorelei. You can talk to me about anything."
"I don't want to talk. I want you to leave." She says eyes glowing
"Fine. At least promise me you'll keep in touch." I reply
"I have nothing against you Rebekah. I just want to be left alone."
She steps backwards, closer to the shadows, careful to not turn her back on me.
"You tell your brother: if he comes after me again, he'll regret it."
With that, she simply turns and walks away.
