Lorelei's POV:
I adjust the knife hidden in my waistband.
"Why can't you just believe that I'm fine enough to heal on my own without you jumping in trying to bring me back?" I demand
"If you truly believed that, you wouldn't have killed those campers love."
"You don't know that!"
"I know you better than anyone. The Lorelei I knew never would've done that. You killed when you had to, not for pleasure. When you first turned, you spent your nights in alleyways compelling people to find the worst of the worst so you would hurt innocent people."
"I'm leaving."
I head for the gate but before I can make it, he speeds up from behind and grabs me by the throat.
"I didn't want it to come to this." He says
"Let me go or you'll never see Rebekah again."
He freezes at this.
"What did you do?"
Without a second to waste, I slam the knife into his leg and headbutt him hard. He loses his grip and I speed farther away from him.
If he forces me to flip my switch, it's game over.
All for nothing.
He makes a move towards me but Elijah speeds in from wherever he was concealed and stops him, grabbing him roughly by the shoulder.
"Let me leave and I'll tell you where she is. Give me your word that you'll let me be. I need time and when I'm ready, I'll flip it back. If not, you can hunt me down and flip it back yourself."
"How do I know you won't back out of this deal or lie about Rebekah's whereabouts?"
I turn to look at Elijah.
"Compel me if you don't believe me."
He stares at me for a moment then nods.
I can tell Nik feels slightly hurt that I picked Elijah over him but I trust Elijah not to twist my will. He compels me not to back out of the deal and with that I write down the location and hand it to Elijah.
Then I head off towards the bayou.
The new deal was that I'd return in 6 months and either have my humanity back or Nik would do it himself.
With one last deep breath, I kneel and focus as the bones in my body break and morph into new ones. My skin is coated in dark black fur as I tilt my nose up into the air.
I take off into the woods on all fours.
Out of New Orleans.
