As if the world was declaring its anger upon the people the sky rumbled sending down flashes of light and torrents of water. The streets were like lakes, puddles as deep as wells and drains as flooded as the amazon in a monsoon.Still people padded through, bright coloured parka's shielding faces from view and fashionable plastic shoes filtering little water from its supposed 'dry' interior. A few teens daringly ran across motor filled roads only to come out on the other side as wet as if they had crawled on their hands and knees.
Katherine was not one of these people, she sat in an overly stuffed coffee shop armchair huddled against a radiator staring out the waterfall like windows. Her red store assistant uniform was dry thanks to good timing and a decent umbrella. Still, it didn't mean the foreshadowing coldness didn't creep into her bones chilling her immensely.
She tucked her medium length almost black hair under the folds of her coat collar in hopes of staying warm but only succeeded in making her neck incredibly itchy. With a sigh she took an elastic putting the stuff Into a messy bun on top of her head.
"Is this seat taken?" A quiet, flawless almost silky voice spoke from her right.
She lifted up her plain jane bluey grey eyes to see a Abercrombie & Fitch worthy man of around twenty fice dressed in what must be designer clothing holding a coffee in his perfectly carved hands. Katherine thanked her tanned skin that didn't blush once she realised she had been staring, only wave to the chair in front of her.
"No, feel free to sit."
"Thanks." His accent was more upperclass than hers, holding an air of the queens English in its depths.
He took a sip of his coffee his eyes looking over her and Katherine only raised her eyebrows in his direction. It wasn't in her nature to squeal under the daring gaze of men.
"Is they a name to go with that beautiful face?" He asked. Katherine could barely hold back a scoff, she wasn't ugly but beautiful pushed the boundaries a little.
"Katherine...Katie. Whatever pleases yourself." Se shrugged pulling off a chunk of chocolate muffin and eating it slowly.
"Kath-er-ine." Her said slowly, caressing each syllable with gentle precision. "I'm Aidan." His name was so simple for such an interesting man.
He put out his hand for her to shake and ever so slowly she grasped his, the situation felt wrong. She felt no desire to ever see his perfect face again, as a young female, that idea didn't feel right to her. Why would she feel uncomfortable around this guy?
"You're an odd woman Katherine." He said softly, looking at her curiously and rubbing his jaw. "Nobody has ever been able to resist my charm in such a way. Still, more of a challenge, it's not like you won't work." He seemed to be talking to himself almost unaware of the rooms occupants.
Just as Katherine was about to make an excuse and leave the psychotic man to his rambling a the window she was leant against smashed and she felt a body slam into hers pulling her under a table. Her mind reeling she only just made out black figures guiding the customers out.
Her back was pressed to a wet chest, definitely not Aidan then. With a groan she tried to move but her head pounded and she found her breathing heavy, she closed her eyes in exhaustion. The man sat up with her almost led on him, though they were still under the table and away from the action above them.
She forced a deep breath into her lungs, it seemed to help get things into perspective a little. The shop was empty of all customers but black clad men and women all held a fighting Aidan down against the counter, his eyes roaming the room until they landed on Katherine hidden under a table.
"Ignore him." The guy whispered in her ear, instead she kept on looking. She wanted more than just answers at this moment in time.
Crawling out from under the table despite the guys protests she stood up and directed her question at Aidan.
"What's going on, who are these.." She waved her hands around, "people?"
"Hunters Katherine, here to kill me and you." He smiled a sickeningly charming smile and directed it in the direction of her.
"Why would you kill me?" Katherine asked as calmly as she could be in a situation like this.
"He's marked her." One of the hunters gasped, he was tall and toned with shoulder length black hair, his arms covered in tattoos and only a thin black t-shirt over his torso. These guys were with really brave or stupidly fearless.
He came over and took ahold of my arm, pulling up the sleeve to reveal my shoulder. I looked down and saw a golden sun tattoo appear on it, I swatted away his hand and furiously rubbed at it. Still it stayed there glaring at me with it shimmering colour.
"Well, well, things just got a tad bit more interesting." Aidan piped up.
