Hello! This is kind of a filler and explanation chapter so when I write the next chapter, you won't be like "Wut?" I'm sorry if it's really short :( I tried lol

Olivia POV

Today was the day. Today was the day I figure out who is on the Special Tactics Squad. Our job is to battle the campers and help the other squads capture them, so that the next group, the Scientific Operations Squad, can figure out how to change them back. It was a lot to take in, and the feeling of nostalgia overwhelmed me.

I wished to be back in high school, or on the beach with my mom, or anywhere but here right now. Those were simpler times, before I had to learn to fight, to kill, and to try to survive. I didn't even know if I'd make it until my 17th birthday. Although no matter how much I wished to go back to the past, I will always be grateful I met Mackenzie, Will, and Zach. I don't know what I'd do if they weren't by my side throughout all of this.

I walked through the hallways, reaching the dining hall. I grabbed some tea, and headed to the training arena. My stomach was in knots, and eating anything would probably just make me sick, so I avoided food through the morning. There was a small crowd gathered when I got there, but I was half an hour earlier for the little "ceremony" my father was going to have for the "lucky" soldiers who got into our five squads. I drank my tea quietly, somewhat listening to the chatter around me. Right now I could only think of how I would either have to kill Starlight or she would have to kill me.

I didn't want to kill her, but that wasn't a choice. I had to, if it kept her from plunging the world into darkness. All I could do is hope for the best. I looked at my watch, reading 7:55 A.M. The ceremony starts in five minutes. I looked around to find Will, Zach, Mackenzie, or even my father. I spotted Will, walking briskly in his direction before I lost him in the ever growing crowd. I searched for him frantically, until I found him. I stood next to him as he talked to one of his other friends. I stayed quiet, gripping my cup of tea, my entire body extremely tense.

He finished his conversation, turning towards me, wrapping his arm around my shoulders, pulling me closer to him. I placed my head gently against his shoulder, his hand rubbing circles into one of my shoulders. I stayed quiet, trying to calm my ever growing nerves. I didn't want to be the cause of someone's death. I was pulled out of my reverie as my father started talking.

"Good morning to you all. I hope you slept well. It's time to reveal who will be on what squad. There are five squads in total, The Special Tactics Squad, The Scientific Operations Squad, the Defense Squad, the other two squads will be guarding the Doors to the Underworld. The Defense and Scientific Operation squads will work on fixing the campers and protecting the Special Tactics Squad, who will be fighting against Starlight." He paused to let the information sink in. "Now I will leave you all to figure out which squad you are in. " My father finishes, snapping his fingers and disappearing, being replaced by an "information" board.

Everyone heads over to the board, but Will and I stay put. We could wait. "Hey, you okay, Liv?" He asks, looking at me with worry etched into his expression.

"Yeah.. just fine. I'm just fine." I replied, my eyes shifting from the floor to look at his bright blue ones.

"Are you sure? You don't seem okay." He presses, holding onto my shoulders with his hands, staring at my face.

"Just nervous, that's all. I promise I'm fine." I say, my answer seemed to still make him uneasy, but he dropped the matter, and stood beside me, arm around my waist. We waited until the crowd dispersed around the board, and headed up there to see for ourselves. We got there and scanned down the list for our names, Mackenzie's, and Zach's.
