Our story begins with a child. An innocent young creature, with wide eyes and an open mind. An infant taking in his first breath. He is carried in the arms of his weak mother, holding him close to her as she crawls through the mud frantically trying to reach her village. She is so close. It's midnight. The moon is full, and the clouds over head are black, as heavy rain falls down from the heavens on to the mother and child.
She pulls herself through the thick mud, nearly to the village. The child begins to cry, being startled by a large flash of lightning in the sky followed by the loud boom of the thunder.
The mother screams out toward the gates, making an attempt to alert the watchman positioned there. But no luck is granted.
She screams again, accompanied by the frightened child.
The watchman on the wall turns and looks off into the darkness.
"Did you hear something?" He nudges the other watchman.
"Not that I know of."
They stare of into the darkness, listening beyond the raging storm. They wait.
"HELP!"
One of them gasp. They grab their spears and climb down the wooden ladder on the gates. One watchman begins to pound on a drum as an alarm.  More watchman come over, and rush out the gates. They run into the forest toward the scream for help. Two members carrying torches, others with spears.
"Where are you?!" Yells a watchman as they rush through the trees, frantically searching. The trees are tall and hide the moons light, but still allow the heart of the storm to break through, as they are drenched in the rain falling from above. The leaves crunch under their running feet as they search and call out for the woman.
And just then, a loud shrieking scream is heard from the woman. They rush to the sound. They curve through the woods until they see the silhouette of a tall creature in the darkness. Some members gasp at its sight. It roars a deep bellowing roar and grabs the woman. She screams.
"MY BABY! HELP! TAKE MY BABY! SAVE HIM!"
She is pulled away into the darkness just as they get to her. The watchman can only watch as she is dragged away into the darkness. They stare into the dark where she was dragged away. One hears a whimper of a child.
The leader of the nights watch leans down and picks up the child from the mud. It cries as the storm goes on. The watchmen gather around him.

"It's a child..." Says a watchman.
"Windigo children are only cursed." The watchman spits.
"What are we to do with this child? It has no mother, she is already doomed."

"Quiet! All of you." The leader shouts as he stands up, holding the child.
"No child will ever be left to rot. It may be a son of the Great Beast, but we can treat the child no different then our own. Is that clear?"

The members are silent.

"Good. Now let's hurry back before we are all stricken with the flu."

The group of men make their way back to the village. With them the child. This, is where our story begins.
