Chapter 10 - The Genin Strike Back

"These children are awfully tenacious," Kamui Woods muttered. "Where did the league find them?"

He still had Lee and the others in his wooden binds. Lee still struggled, even though the kunoichi looked more resigned to their fates.

Naruto and the creepy sand guy are giving it their all to try and save us. Ino had been stunned over and over again by the displays of power that her friends had shown. Were they really from the same graduating class?

Ever since the chunin exams, she had tried to ignore the widening gap between her and her friends. Shikamaru won his first battle and would have won against Temari had he not given up. During the invasion, he easily dispelled the genjutsu and was brave enough to try and tackle multiple sound ninja. Sure he had needed Asuma to save him in the end, but still... would she even have been able to pull such a feat?

She had consoled herself with the fact that Choji was one-shot in his chunin exam match. But still, he was more useful here than she could ever be. He was brave enough to try to help while she, Ino, just ran away with the girls. Well most of the girls... Tenten had stayed to help. Temari had been useful much earlier. And she was stuck here... with billboard brow Sakura, and Hinata.

Raising her head, she saw Lee struggling to break free from the binds. He had been fully entangled and tried to burst free through sheer force of will. He didn't even have his hands free. Not that he needed them. He couldn't perform ninjutsu anyway.

Ino watched him struggle on. He was still fighting even though they were caught. She looked from him to her hands. If only she could do something...

Yes! That was it. That man didn't know. She just needed one-shot. But she couldn't miss. She needed a distraction. She looked up to the others. Sakura and Hinata seemed to have had their own reflections. And billboard brow was looking at her expectantly.

"Hey Wood guy!" Sakura called out. "Your friend out there is really taking a beating, no?"

This got Kamui Wood's attention.

"Shouldn't you try and help him?"

"All-Might is fine. He'll detain the rest of your delinquent friends soon," the hero answered flippantly.

Sakura chortled. "What kind of name is All-Might? Very dumb sounding, like Might Guy no?"

"Hey!" Lee snapped at her.

"So what's your name, Treehead?" She mocked before gasping with an epiphany. "It's blockhead isn't it? Or wedge head?"

The fact that Kamui Woods knew these were obviously taunts didn't prevent them from annoying him. These were similar to insults he'd received when he was much younger. And he thought he'd put those days behind him.

The wooden branches binding Sakura began to grow to try and encircle her mouth, but she kept moving her head away.

"Stay still and be quiet, will you?" The hero ordered, trying to silence her.

"IF SASUKE WERE HERE, YOU'D BE KINDLING BY NOW!!" she shouted as she continued to struggle.

"Hey Billboard Brow, you're overdoing it!" Kamui Woods snapped uncharacteristically at her.

"Yeah, yeah! Make yourself useful Ino," Sakura mocked.

Kamui Woods, who was now possessed by Ino, released the genin from their wooden prisons.

What are you doing? His spirit shouted to his body.

Sorry! I had to borrow this! Ino's spirit, which was in Woods' body winked. You can have it back!
