Water moon ~
Yellow Hotel lights flashed in the distance, as I pulled into the parking lot. I took my glasses off and rubbed my eyes. I've been driving through the night and as the orange sunrise set in the sky I resigned to the fact I needed to sleep or we were more likely to get into an accident than cross safely in Nerva.
Nerva was the next nearest country which has some magic dwellers but still mostly run by humans which didn't take to kindly to the supernatural. And an emerald dragon would stick out like a sore thumb here. I looked over at Eve and breathed a sigh, what had I got myself into, hiding a supernatural and even worse helping her. I know what I have been taught, to not trust, to kill the supernatural. But I have never been good at doing what I'm told, so here we are.
"I'm going to level with you here kid, if were getting out of this place BOTH alive, do what I say and PLEASE for the love of goddess don't throw flames or try eating anyone here". Eve looked at me and rolled her eye "I'll TRY" she hissed. I passed her some of my clothes to get changed into and pulled my weapons and money into the pockets in my jacket. I pulled the hood of Eves jacket up and looked at her in those flashing green eyes "Let me do all the talking" as I stepped in front of her as we walked up to the front desk. I felt this odd protective urge to shelter her the best I could from the people here. I shook my head, man what am I thinking. I am going to take her back home and then we will part way I thought as I leaned onto the desk of the hotel. I picked this hotel, it was run down enough that they won't ask for IDs but not run down so much that its owned by people we definitely don't want to meet.
"1 room, two beds, 1 night" I said catching the lady's attention. She was chewing gum and clicking her pen, "names?".
"Gemma and Natalia brown" I said placing my money on the counter. "uh huh" she said taking the money and throwing me the keys. "3rd floor up, rooms 208" check out is 11am" she said popping bubbled in my face. I forced a fake smile "Thanks".
I ushered Eve through the doors and up the stairs until we reached the 3rd floor. I walked the hallway and checked the exists, fire escape was in front of us and worst case scenario we could leave through the window at the entrance of the floor that leads onto a car park garage. I opened our door and threw my jacket onto the bed, green cotton sheets cover two single beds, on beside table with a light, and one small bathroom with a sink, toilet and shower, also green I might add.Eve sat on the bed and finally looked at me properly for the first time today. "What's up with you helping me? Huh? You want to drop me off at the highest bidder yourself and collect all the money? You know ill kill you before you could do that" She breathed out with crossed arms, her magic simmering around her, swirling greens sparks filled the room. I sat on the bed opposite her and looked at her properly for the first time today too. She had a black messy cut bob, caramel skin with some freckles speckled across her face that light up green when she was angry. She had sharp check bones and thick eye brows and she was skinny, too skinny. She reached near my shoulders, I guess she was maybe around 12.
I raised my eye brows at her "Don't lump me in with those mongrels kid, I'm far too smart to have old world ideas and follow a man's word to T, give me a little bit of credit" I said smirking. "So what do you want?" she said slowly and looked at me like I was the odd one here, not her with her green magic sparking between us threatening to burn me. What did I want I, I didn't want to leave her there to die, because then I might as well have pulled the trigger myself.
I huffed and ran my tongue along my teeth, "Like I said before, I'm going to TRY and take you home and then we part ways" "I don't want your life on my conscious ok".
She still looked at me wearily but less angry and her magic stopped sparkling and crackling around us. "Your not scared of me" She accused me. I laughed "your not that scary kid". She was now looking at me as angry as she was before.
I hummed, "let get some sleep, we have a long road ahead of us tomorrow" I said lying down on the bed and trying not to think about when these sheets were last washed.
"I could kill you in your sleep" She shouted. "Good luck getting out of here by yourself, you handled one hunter, could you handle a whole town coming at you with pitch forks?" She huffed and rolled around to face the wall on her bed.I lay there looking at the ceiling. I would have to take her to Devonic, I know I would, the home world of the dragons, a place where I could be killed, a place I REALLY didn't want to go. I also know I can't do this alone, I will have to ask for help, but who could I call for help to take the enemy across the land to the gates of hell. Man, I was getting a headache just thinking about it, this is probably the stupidest thing I have ever done. Yet here I am. That's tomorrow's issues I thought as my eyes closed and felt exhaustion take over.
