Lisa packed her notebook, laptop and lunch in her small backpack while getting ready for school that morning. Lisa knew today would be another lonely day for her and it was only the second day!
That day when she got to her class, she made a huge discovery. Some teenagers were wreaking havoc to the sparkling clean room it was the night before. The teens were tall, like giraffes, and their bags had stuff like Rebel written on them. The tallest (although they were all tall) was ordering them to make the classroom messy. Paper was trashed everywhere, cupboards had graffiti on them, and the teens did not show any sign of stopping.
Lisa did not know what to do or say. If she stayed, she could be in trouble for not telling anyone. But if she left, she could get away with it, but so could the teens. Another girl came up to the bullies and told them to shoo out of their school. She told them in a mean, harsh and loud voice. Lisa didn't know who she liked more, the rebellious teens or the harsh girl.
"Sorry about that! Those teens are always coming here," the girl told her. "By the way, I'm Tina. Tina Lu. And you are?" She shook her hand out for her to take but took it back when Lisa didn't take it.
Lisa just stood there trembling. She did not know what to say. Finally, she let out a small whisper. "L-Lisa M-Martin, you c-can call m-me L-Lis."
"Thats a nice name. Although I guess we both have regular names, we're boring, I guess. So, what's your ethnicity. I'm part Korean and Chinese." Tina relied.
Again, Lisa could only muster a whisper, for she was still scared of the girl. "I-I am part B-British and F-French."
It looked as though the other girl was analyzing Lisa. She had sleek black hair past her shoulders, brown eyes and round glasses. She was squinting at Lisa as though trying to find out what was wrong with her.
"Are you okay?" Tina asked finally.
"Oh me? Yeah, yeah I'm fine." Lisa replied.
"Are you sure? You look like you have social anxiety. There's nothing to be afraid of. Ninety-nine percent of people have social anxiety at some point in their life. The one percent who don't are psychopaths," she replied.
Lisa snorted. But covered it up immediately. Drat. How did she know? But when the bell rang, they quickly got to their seats.
When the other kids came in, the classroom was as crowded as a school bus. The teacher arrived and soon the students became mice. In some ways it wasn't as bad as Lisa thought it would be.
