"What the hell?"

You grin sheepishly. "Hey."

"What are you doing here?" Yeji is dumbfounded, her eyes wide and mouth parted in shock.

"It was a last second decision, I swear. But I figured I might as well surprise you." You smile. "Well? Are you just going to stand there?"

Yeji launches towards you, pulling you into a fierce hug. It felt good to see her again, and now you would be seeing her everyday like you used to. Two years ago, you left the academy to try a different school for the first time, but ended up missing your friends and convinced your parents to transfer you back two weeks before the school year started. Your dad managed to pull some strings, and you decided to keep it on the down low and surprise your best friend.

"I'm so happy you came back! It's going to be an amazing final year!" Yeji exclaims. "What's your first class?"

"World History," you reply, and she makes a face. You laugh. "Forget classes, though. What's been going on here? Any new students in our class?"

Yeji nods eagerly. "Most became popular students, none are that important to note. Trust me. Can I see your schedule?"

You hand the paper that was given to you by the front desk and wait patiently as your best friend scans it to compare with her own classes.

"Oh, we have Chemistry together!" she remarks.

You breathe a sigh of relief. "Thank God, at least I don't have to be in science alone."

Yeji nods in agreement, knowing your weakness has been STEM classes as you were more of an English and foreign language-based person.

"Alright, well, I'll see you at lunch! We can walk to class together after." Yeji smiles brightly before walking away, a bit of spring in her step as she does.

You smile, unknowing of what awaited you in Chemistry.

It's refreshing to see everyone again; most have stayed the same personality-wise, some having gone through physical changes over the past two years. You walk into Chemistry with Yeji, who immediately makes a bee line for the back of the class. There are six long black tables, each with four seats, organized in columns of three facing the front of the room.

You sit beside Yeji and glance around, noticing a student that you're unfamiliar with sitting at the other black table in the back row. He seems concentrated on a paper, head down and not seeming very open to socializing.

As students file in and sit with each other, you note that no one has join the lone individual. You would have dismissed it, had Yeji not looked over and said, "Hey, Chris. How was your summer?" to the stranger.

The student, Chris, glances up in response, seeming a bit startled.

Initially, you don't think much of him. His short, black hair is unruly and seemingly unbrushed, sitting on his head in a mess of curls. His eyes are the average dark brown that you might expect, nothing exotic or note-worthy that makes you sit up straight. Except, nothing could have prepared you for the feature that practically changed your life.

He smiles awkwardly and says, "It was fine. And yours?"

The smile that spreads across the boy's face is possibly the prettiest that you have ever seen. Perhaps that's overdramatic, but it's a feature that you can't tear your eyes off of.

Yeji responds, making a joke about a class they were in together last year and moving on to talk about exams.

"I did horribly on World History, oh my God," she says with a laugh.

Chris simply nods, head bobbing in what appears to be awkwardness. He's not very talkative, but he seems nice. That smile, though... you can't help but want to see it again. Be the reason that it returns.

And that's when you realize you are truly fucked.
