Finally! Summer!
I closed my locker door and walked away from it.
Junior year... Finished!
Boys and girls ran past me, itching to get out of the school. We all knew what summer meant. No more school. At least, until September.
Instead of walking out the doors, I went over to the bathroom. No one was in there, so I could use it in peace.
Just as I was finishing, voices entered the bathroom.
"You know what I'm doing this summer?"
"No. What?"
"Me and Isaac are going to LA! And we are going to meet his uncle who has a recording studio!"
"Girl, that is amazing!"
"I know right? And we'll probably meet, like, Rihanna or Katy Perry!"
I opened the stall door and faced the two girls who stood in front of the mirror, doing their makeup.
"Yeah! Or you-" The one girl noticed me.
"Wow. Eavesdrop much?" The second girl whispered. They turned to me. I knew them both. "Hey Reggie." The girl who had noticed me first said. Her name was Brianna. Brianna Kensington. She had red hair, like not a natural red. It was dyed. And she always had different contacts in so her eyes were never the same color either. At the moment, her eyes were sky blue.
"Hi." I replied, trying to get to a sink. The other girl scowled at me. Her name was Elizabeth Hewitt. She was one of the more "popular" girls in school. She had long blonde hair which was always in a bun. And she had blue eyes. Typical Aryan race descendent.
"You know its really fucking rude to interrupt people." Elizabeth snapped. I nodded.
"Yeah... I'm sorry. I wont do it again." I said, turning on the faucet and starting to wash my hands. Elizabeth scoffed and went back to talking.
"As I was saying, Isaac and I are going to have so much fun!" She said. Brianna nodded and clapped her hands.
"What if he, like, proposes or something???"
"Oh my god! That would make me cry!"
I rolled my eyes and grabbed my bag, quickly leaving the room before either of them could stop me. The faster I could leave the school, the faster I could get home.
As I walked down the sidewalk, towards the main road, I started feeling self conscious about the way I looked. Most girls in my school wore skinny jeans or yoga pants and cute t-shirts or crop tops. But me?
Sometimes, I wore band t-shirts and old, beat up jeans. Sometimes I wore a sweater and sweatpants. Today, I was wearing an A Day To Remember T-shirt with a pair of basketball shorts. Not that I ever played basketball.
I was a lot different from the other girls in my school. I wasn't pretty.
I had natural brown hair. My eyes were a weird hazel. Plus, I had glasses. End of story.
I crossed the main road and headed up the hill. Cars rushed past behind me. Everyone was in such a rush to get home or go to work or wherever they were going.
I mean, I was too, but its not like I was running. I knew that when I got home, I'd draw while listening to music all night. Or I'd be watching YouTube videos until I pass out. Either way, I didn't have any real plans and no need to rush.
At the top of the hill, I passed the tiny brick building that used to be an old army base or something. Now, drug addicted teens would sit along the outside wall that faced away from the school and, well, do drugs.
As I passed, one of the guys noticed me. "Hey Reggie!" He called out. I half waved and kept walking.
His name was Danny Carter. In elementary school and middle school, he was one of my best friends. But high school introduced him to drugs. So Danny left.
He had pretty caramel colored eyes and curly chestnut colored hair. He also had an adorable laugh, which I longed to hear every time I saw him. He was a sweetheart and also quite attractive. Or at least, he was until the drugs took over.
Now his hair was always disgusting looking. His eyes were faded. And I didn't even know if he still had his laugh. I hadn't heard it in three years.
"Reggie! Wait up a sec!" I heard Danny call to me. As I turned my head, I saw him walking over to me. He was holding a cigarette in his hand. He was wearing beat up jeans and a wife beater with a rusty colored stain on the front.
"Hey." He said as he stopped next to me. I grinned. "Haven't heard from you in awhile. Where've you been?" He asked. I stared at Danny for a moment. Does he realize its been three years? I shrugged.
"I've been around. Danny, you're the one who's been gone." I said. Danny frowned. He looked back at his "friends."
"They're not so bad." He said. Then he looked back at me. "My friends and my drugs." He specified. I rolled my eyes. He took a drag of his cigarette.
"Please." I said with a snort of disgust. "We both know you hated them in middle school! Then freshman year, you buddy up to them and now look at you!" I made a gesture to Danny's body. He had gained some weight and his muscles weren't huge like they had been before. Danny sighed.
"Yeah I know I've changed. But who gives a shit?" He snapped. He took another drag of his cigarette. "My mom is too busy with her new boyfriend and my dad has been gone for two years. Neither of them give a shit so why should I?" I winced.
"I still care Danny." I said. Danny glared at me. His face became red with rage.
"Bull fucking shit Reggie!" He shouted. "You don't care! Now fuck off and leave me alone!" He stormed away. I stared after him in shock.
"Well, for the record, you talked to me!" I shouted. Then I, too, turned and walked away. I was angry.
He had the nerve to yell at me and say I didn't care? At the same time, I was really hurt. We used to be so close. But now? Farther apart than Earth and Betelguese.
I sighed and walked across another street, feeling the tears sting my eyes. Goddamnit... This is not how the last day of school should be...
Heys guys! So, I hope you enjoyed the first chapter of this book! :D The pic attached is what Reggie looked like cx Hope you enjoy! Vote, comment, and follow if you want!
