It's so strange how quickly your fate can change with one roll of a dice, he thought. No one stirred. It seemed as if the room itself was holding its breath.
Dink!
The dice had landed. His future was sealed. Suddenly, the small room erupted into cheers and shouts and laughter. The gambler looked at his feet, trying to hide his smile. He had won. The numbers didn't lie. There was a clear six-dot die in on the black metal table in front of him, and if that wasn't a clear win, he didn't know what was.
"Congrats, kid." Said the bartender in front of him, patting him on the back.
"Why are you congratulating me?" The gambler asked, genuinely confused. "You're the one losing all the money." The bartender looked around thoughtfully. "Honestly? Because I know it's going to a good place. I'd help a kid like you." He replied. He's pretending that he has no idea, thought the gambler.
The bartender looked around, and quickly lost interest in him when he ran over to greet his friends. The gambler collected the money and began to silently push his way through the distracted crowd, exited the building, and left before anyone noticed he had been there.
