My yearly doctor's check up comes around, yet again. I have taken good care of myself this year, right?  I wonder. My old doctor retired, but he referred me to a new one. I sat on a bench outside the office, my phone in my hand, the minutes counting down to when I had to go in.

It was a new building, one that my old doctor had referred to me before he retired, so last year. The building was an old brick building, so far I've seen no one go in or out of the building, it was strange, but it was early in the day, so I wasn't too worried about it.

It was time, I checked the time on my phone before I walked in. I opened the door and a beautiful lady sat before a large half-circle desk, "hello." I said, walking towards her, "I'm here for my appointment."

"Name, please?" She said, looking up at me, a smile crossing her face as she looked up.

"Kate Campbell." I said, looking down at her.

"Okay, Ms. Campbell," she slid some paperwork to me, "your older than eighteen right? I mean I don't see an adult with you."

"Yes. I am." I responded, taking the paperwork.

Consent forms, great. However there was one extra one in the pile, a pulled it out and skimmed it over, lawsuit form. I glanced up and looked around, "excuse me, ma'am." I said politely, "what's this form for?" I held up the lawsuit form.

"It's an extra precaution here." She replied.

I looked down at the lettering on the form, before giving all of them my signatures, I slid it back to her, "done." I said.

"Ms. Campbell, take a seat, they'll call you back in a minute."

I nodded and took a seat, strange how empty this place was, that's what I get for coming on a Saturday morning.

"Kate Campbell." A man's voice spoke out, a few minutes later.

I stood and walked towards him, "my names Dr. Kelly." He held his hand out. 

I shook his hand, "nice to meet you."

"Did you end up having that surgery in your wrist?" He asked, looking down at her.

He was over a head taller than she was, at least 5'10 (1.778 meters) or maybe taller, "uh... no, the other place said they only fixed broken bones." She scoffed, with a laugh, "I fractured mine. How did you know that?"

"I read your file, as I do all of my patients." He said, holding the file up, "you'd be surprised what I learned about you."

I rolled my eyes, "great."

"Did you come in to get your wrist fixed?'

I stared at him dumbfounded, "No, I-"

He cut me off, "yes you did, you were referred by your doctor to here for the surgery because they couldn't do it for you."

"No, I-" I started again but he cut me off.

He smiled at her "Come on, we can get it fixed for you." 

"But..." I sighed, looking at the ground, defeated, "okay. Fine. Yes... I was waiting for it to be fixed." She played along with him.

"Wonderful, the forms you signed were injury and insurance forms."

A nurse appeared and walked towards her, she was holding a gown, "now, you're going to go into that room and change into the gown, then come out and we'll get right to fixing your wrist. First we should probably sedate you, so you don't feel any pain, don't worry. You're in safe hands."

I walked into the room and undressed myself, leaving my bra and panties on. I exited the room dressed in a gown, the nurse lead me to a different room, an operating table was in the middle of that room. The nurse locked the room's door, after I'd entered, I saw the doctor getting some supplies.

"Here," he said, "lay here." he pointed to the table, there were bright lights above, this looked to be an actually operating room.

I positioned myself on the table and laid back, "very good now," he said, "the nurse will sedate you now. I'll keep you out for the entirety of the procedure." 

The nurse held a mask in her hand and she put it over my nose, I inhaled and my brain felt like it would fall asleep.

My consciousness slowly slipped from me and I was out cold.

A/N: short one, I know. It was meant to just introduce what the protagonist's situation is.

I promise not all my chapters are this short.
