Chapter #33
Louri’s POV
I feel better now that Chris and I have made up. He went home after the movie was over. He took some of Ma’s things and said he’d talk to her and hopefully get her to apologize to Scarlett. Scarlett and I are currently putting the girls down for their nap. “Can I have an energy drink now?” I ask since it’s eleven. “Yes I don’t know why you like energy drinks so much.” Scarlett says. “Boot camp.” I tell her. “Baby that was over almost twenty years ago.” She says. “What’s your point?” I ask. “You can’t use that excuse.” She says. “No, what I mean is I started drinking them so much in boot camp because it was exhausting.” I tell her. “I bet it was but you got a killer body out of it.” She says. “Have you seen your body? Apsolute goddess.” I say. “Please don’t say things like that about my daughter around me.” Melanie says. “I’m just saying the truth.” I shrug. “Louri, that's my baby girl you are talking about.” Melanie scolds.
Scarlett’s POV
“Mom, that's the pg version of what she thinks about my body.” I say. “I don’t want to know.” Mom says. “I’ll stop saying it in front of you.” Louri says. “Thank you.” Mom says. “Why does Mama think about your body?” Devon asks me oh shit I forgot he was in the room. “Uh I um bye.” Louri says and flees to her office. “Because we are married.” I say. “I still don’t get it.” He says. “That’s ok sweetheart you don’t need to.” I tell him. “Ok but I think it’s weird.” He says. “AH GIZMO DON’T DO THAT!” Louri yells. “I think Gizmo’s in trouble.” Devon says. “You might be right.” I say. “Fucking hell. Ugh!” Louri groans. “Babe what happened?” I call out since the office leads right into the living room. “Fucking cat pissed on my paperwork now I have to print everything out again and fill it out again.” She says Louri loves her job but she despises paperwork she says it’s quote ‘the ninth circle of hell.’ “I can help Mama. I am a little Marine after all.” He says it’s cute that sometimes she lets him help with work. “Not this time little Marine. Maybe next time.” She tells him. “Grandma, will you play rummy with me again?” He asks, I will never understand why a six year old likes that game. “I would love to. Let's go to the table and I’ll get the cards.” Mom says. I walk into the office and Gizmo is sitting in the window looking very proud of himself. “Scarlett, I need my computer.” Louri says and I nod and open up the safe I use for my scripts and grab her computer. “That’s where you put it?” She says. “Yep since you don’t know the code.” I say. “What is the code?” I ask. “Well I guess I can tell you since I don’t have any MARVEL movies that I will be doing. It’s the anniversary of the day we got together.” I tell her. “Oh March fifth, two thousand seven.” She says. “Yep.” I say. “That’s actually the password to my laptop.” She says as I hand it to her. “Really?” I ask. “Yeah it was a pretty damn special day for me.” She smiles and puts the laptop on the desk and wraps her arms around my waist. “It was one of the best days of my life.” I tell her. “We’ve been through a lot since then.” She says and I nod. “Yeah we have.” I say. “You know I wanted to marry you right then on the spot that day.” She says. “What?” I say. “Yeah I knew I loved you and you said you felt the same and I wanted to marry you right then and there.” She tells me. “Why did you wait two years to ask me?” I ask her. “I didn’t want to rush you.” She says. “You are very sweet, Marine.” I say and pull her in for a soft kiss. “I will always be your Marine as long as you let me.” She says. “I will always want that.” I tell her. “Eh, the reports can wait. I kinda don’t want to let you go right now.” She says. “Then don’t.” I tell her. “I have an idea.” She says pulling out her phone and she plays ‘Can’t help falling in love’ by Elvis. “May I have this dance?” She asks. “You are such a romantic and I would love that.” I say and we start to dance to the music. “Some things are meant to be.” She sings along. “For I can’t help falling in love with you.” I sing as the song comes to an end. “Come on, let's go to the living room and we can watch something. Koala.” She says and picks me up effortlessly and I wrap my legs around her waist and she carries me out of the office but stops halfway to the couch and her grip on me tightens slightly in almost a protective manner and her smile fades I look to see what has made her stop and I see Lisa in the living room with Chris sitting on the couch. “I came to apologize.” Lisa says and Louri nods and carries me over to her chair and sits down with me in her lap. “I should never have said what I did.” Lisa starts. “No you shouldn’t have.” Louri bites back and I put my hand on her chest to help calm her. “You said that I found it funny that Louri got hurt in front of the kids. I really don’t give a shit what you think of me but saying that in front of our kids was unexceptable.” I say. “Wait Ma you said it in front of the kids? You didn’t tell me that.” Chris says. “I’m not proud of what happened this morning and I didn’t mean to guilt trip you either Louri.” She says. “If you are here to apologize, don't lie while you do it. You knew full well you were guilt tripping her. You should never had made her feel as if she had to pick between you or I that’s a fucked up thing to do to someone let alone your our child.” I say angrily. “Ma she’s right that’s not ok. I know for a fact she will pick Scarlett and the kids over herself any day so if she will put them above herself of course she’ll put them above other people.” Chris says. “Yeah and it nearly got her killed! Do you not remember what happened with Alan Henderson?” Lisa spits here we go again.
