~ A lie leads a man from a grove into a jungle.~
Brielle Belafonte
"Please tell me you have good news for me." I told Adelaide as she entered my office
"The wolf pack sent something I'm sure you'll be interested in." Adelaide took a seat in front of me and handed me an envelope. I opened it to find a simple written letter
"An alliance?" I read it out loud as I skimmed and scanned the letter with my eyes
"Yep, and guess what?" Adelaide confirmed with an amused and excited expression
"We're selling cookies." I replied with a hint of sarcasm, wanting to quickly get the information out of her
"Yes to your grandmother." She laughed, and I didn't join her, finding no amusement in it
"Jeez, loosen up a bit. There's a new alpha for the pack, and he wants to call it to a truece, so he invited you to their territory to talk." She passed over the invitation that looked more suitable for a baby party
"I said good news, not boring." I told Adelaide, reminding her what I wanted to hear
"We finish off with the best and start with the worst. So I found something on your pet." She passed over a file filled with typed out information
"She was finishing her last of high school, had good parents, and was top of her class." Adelaide explained as I flipped through the pages
"But?" I asked her, waiting for the change of situation
"She's a Throndsone." She said it as if it was the most obvious thing she could've mentioned. I waited for her to explain what she meant, and she eventually caught on to my silence
"It means the family is part of Benjamin's clan, and you know Benjamin only has a few names under him. Wilson, Anderson and Throndsone - " I interrupted seeing where she was going
"Benjamin is a demon lord that doesn't care about the people in the underworld. Why would his people be anywhere near the humans?" I tried putting the pieces together
"Well, why else would you hide something in plain sight?" Adelaide hinted to me that he was keeping something
"Why would he do that?" I added myself more than I voiced out the thought
"Well, that just means he didn't want them to find out what Emaline doesn't know. She's not human and which means Benjamin hid them." Adelaide explained her theory, and I couldn't wrap my head around it
"I highly doubt that." I got up to stretch the stiffness only my emotions could feel
"Why else would her vangs not pop out? It's been weeks, and knowing the type of power you uphold as a royal should say a lot." She pointed out, making sense of the situation she was implying
"If that's so, then her parents were pretending, but why?" I voiced out my thought
"Why don't you figure it out." Adelaide suggested as she gave me a file with what I assumed could be the Throndsone family
"Figured you'd want this." My assumption was correct when I opened the file to see Christiana and Thomas Throndsone
"Look it over, and we'll talk about it during lunch." Adelaide got up, ready to leave
"Don't forget to go to the party tonight, and by the way, a thank you wouldn't hurt anyone." She waited at the door for my reply
"Thank you." I told her dryly as she closed my door, but I was very appreciative
I looked over the file of the Throndsone family. It seems they moved into the new neighborhood, which is their current location only after both their children were born. It didn't show where they came from nor where they were born. It just showed they started to exist as soon as they moved into the new place
I looked into Emaline's file that showed she had been there since she was born. She had her valedictorian streak since she was 7 and had a record that wasn't tainted by her friends who had been there since she started school, but one stood out. Rachel brooks. She was a part of the shadow pack that didn't love to involve themselves with humans and lived outside the human world into the woods
Rachel wasn't a lone wolf and was still in contact with her pack in any way possible, which only means she was either looking after Emaline for Benjamin or for the shadow pack taht probably wanted to recruit her for the war they were always planning. Although now there is a new alpha, which means the rules have changed and that would be the reason why Rachel hasn't bothered to find her friend but what was so special about Emaline that everyone wanted her so bad to be hidden and kept away
I will admit that Benjamin was one of the strongest creatures to ever roam the underworld,he had the best soldiers and unimaginable power for the rest of the people to cower beneath him but like I said was. Past tense. The only logical reason to put his people in plain site was to protect his only left legacy, seeing that his wife passed to unknown causes a while back and the only reason the wolves would be involved was because it made more sense to involve yourself with the only people that would protect you and had power when wanting to rule
The thoughts constantly revolved around my mind, giving me a headache as I tried to make sense out of them. I opened the drows beside my table and took out my wine infused drink, and took a sip, feeling my body relax. Even after years of drinking this, I still haven't learned to control my emotions and frustration without it, especially not after I found out my father was still alive
He never loved you. Exactly why his blood is more suitable to drink at this moment. My inner demon spoke, and I couldn't help my fangs coming out. I took another sip of the drink, trying to calm down
My mind drifted to the thought regardless. Why did my father leave, and why didn't he want me after he got remarried? I pushed the thought away as I tried to force my mind to stay in the room I was in and what I was doing. Emaline was a vampire, but why didn't she know about it? Why was it a secret?
