I wanted to try Hybrid au so let's go!
Summary: Jisung is a squirrel hybrid that hates thunderstorms because of his old master/boyfriend so Seungmin comforts him. (I love that fanart T-T)
"Jisung, I'm home!" Seungmin's voice rang out as the door to his apartment clicked shut. His friends filed in behind him, chatting and laughing after their evening plans were canceled due to the weather.
"Minnie!" Jisung's voice echoed back. The familiar sound of footsteps thundered down the hallway before Jisung appeared, a blur of excitement. The squirrel hybrid practically launched himself at Seungmin, his arms wrapping tightly around Seungmin's neck as he buried his face in his boyfriend's shoulder.
Seungmin's arms instinctively circled Jisung's small waist, grounding him. "I missed you," Jisung murmured softly, his voice carrying a warmth that melted Seungmin's heart.
"Aww, I missed you too, baby," Seungmin whispered back, holding Jisung closer. Their friends, standing nearby, couldn't help but coo at the adorable sight of the couple.
"Hey, Sungie!" Felix called with a grin, catching Jisung's attention.
Jisung's ears perked up, and his face lit up as he pulled away from Seungmin and darted toward Felix, tackling him into a hug. "Lixxie!" he chirped, nuzzling into Felix's neck.
Seungmin and Hyunjin exchanged unimpressed glances, silently communicating their mutual disapproval. Why are our boyfriends so close? Seungmin's expression seemed to say. Hyunjin raised a brow as if responding, Get your boyfriend off mine.
Before either could voice their thoughts, Chan's voice broke through. "Hey, so apparently it's going to rain tonight," he announced, holding up his phone. "Looks like we can't go to that new restaurant for dinner. Sorry, Min."
Seungmin shrugged, unfazed by the change in plans, but Jisung visibly tensed. His tail twitched nervously as his gaze darted toward the window.
"D-Does that mean there'll be thunder?" Jisung's voice was small, almost inaudible, but it drew everyone's attention.
Hyunjin frowned. "Why are you scared, Sungie?" he asked, his tone light but curious.
"I-I'm not scared," Jisung replied quickly, his voice higher than usual. He stepped back, his posture stiff. Seungmin, however, knew better. He crossed his arms and raised an eyebrow.
"You're lying, Jisung," Seungmin said firmly, his gaze unwavering.
"I swear I'm not, Seungmin!" Jisung's voice cracked as he grew defensive. Without waiting for a response, he turned and bolted to their shared bedroom, slamming the door shut behind him.
"Jisung, wait!" Seungmin called after him, his voice tinged with concern. He moved to follow, but the sound of the lock clicking stopped him in his tracks.
Hyunjin sighed, guilt flickering across his face. "I didn't mean to upset him," he murmured.
Seungmin shook his head. "It's not your fault," he reassured, though worry was etched across his features. "He just... struggles with thunderstorms. They remind him of things he'd rather forget."
The group exchanged uneasy looks, aware of the fragments of Jisung's past Seungmin had shared over the years. His previous relationship had been nothing short of horrific—his ex, a controlling and abusive man, had left deep scars, both visible and invisible.
The evening wore on. They ordered McDonald's, hoping the familiar comfort food might coax Jisung out of his room, but as hours passed, the door remained firmly shut. Seungmin grew restless.
"I'm going to check on him," he announced, standing abruptly.
As he approached the door, a loud clap of thunder echoed through the apartment. From inside the room came the unmistakable sound of items clattering to the floor, followed by a scream that made Seungmin's blood run cold.
"Sung? Jisung? Open the door!" he called, his voice rising with urgency. There was no response. "Jisung!" he yelled again, his fists pounding on the door. Still, silence.
Another deafening crash of thunder boomed outside, and this time, Jisung's scream was heart-wrenching, filled with pure terror. Seungmin didn't hesitate. He stepped back and kicked the door with all his strength. The wood splintered, the door swinging open to reveal chaos.
The room was a mess—furniture overturned, scattered belongings littering the floor. But what caught Seungmin's attention was Jisung, huddled in the farthest corner. He was trembling violently, his arms wrapped around his knees, tail curled protectively around himself. His ears were flattened against his head as he sobbed, his hands clutching at his ears in a futile attempt to block out the thunder.
"Sungie," Seungmin breathed, rushing to his side. He carefully navigated the mess, dropping to his knees in front of his boyfriend. "It's me, baby. I'm here."
Jisung's eyes flickered open at the familiar voice. "I-I thought he was g-gonna come back and hurt me," he choked out between sobs, his voice broken and raw.
"No, baby. He's in jail, remember?" Seungmin said softly, his hands cupping Jisung's tear-streaked face. "He can't hurt you anymore. You're safe. I promise."
The others stood frozen in the doorway, the weight of Jisung's words settling over them. Hyunjin clenched his fists, anger simmering beneath the surface. Felix's face darkened, and Jeongin sniffled, wiping at his eyes. Even Minho, usually stoic, looked visibly shaken.
Chan stepped forward, his protective instincts kicking in. "Come on," he said gently, scooping Jisung into his arms. Jisung instinctively curled into Chan's chest, his small frame trembling. "Let's get you somewhere quiet," Chan murmured.
He carried Jisung to the bathroom, the only soundproof room in the apartment. Seungmin followed closely, his expression a mixture of guilt and determination.
Inside, Chan set Jisung down, and Seungmin immediately pulled him into his lap. "See, baby? No thunder in here," Seungmin said softly, running his fingers through Jisung's hair.
Jisung nodded weakly, his sobs gradually subsiding into sniffles. Minho poked his head in briefly to hand Seungmin a bag of McDonald's. "For him," he said quietly before retreating to give them privacy.
Seungmin unwrapped a Big Mac, holding it out. "Your favorite," he coaxed.
Jisung took a shaky bite, his grip on Seungmin's shirt tightening. After a few minutes, his breathing evened out, and he nestled closer to Seungmin's chest.
"You okay now, Sungie?" Seungmin asked, his voice barely above a whisper.
"Only because you're here," Jisung murmured, his voice muffled against Seungmin's shirt.
"You're safe with me, always," Seungmin promised, his arms tightening around Jisung protectively. "He'll never hurt you again."
They stayed like that for hours, the storm raging outside but forgotten in the safety of their embrace. When Chan checked on them later, he found them sound asleep, Jisung curled up in Seungmin's lap. Smiling softly, he carefully carried them to bed, tucking them in.
As the first rays of sunlight peeked through the curtains, Jisung stirred, finding himself still wrapped securely in Seungmin's arms. For the first time in years, he felt safe.
