     Annus was scared.

He had gloated throughout the year about how undaunting their inexorable end had seemed..       So why was he scared now that it was happening? He figured he'd just have to get over it. You see, Unus was always the anxious one, he had been panicky since the beginning of the year after all! Unus probably needed Annus' normal peaceful disposition to calm himself down, it was irresponsible of Annus to be selfish enough to worry now.

He needed to be there for Unus.

Yet that didn't stop Annus from continuing to have a panic attack in the bathroom. Unus was waiting for him outside, as he had said he wanted to watch their last sunset together. Annus was letting him down.

He draws in a sharp breath, using the blunt of his palm to wipe the tears from his worry-creased face. He lifts his head to look at himself in the mirror, and just the sight of his own tear-stained, pathetic face makes him choke out another sob. The salty, anguish filled tears run hot paths down his cheeks, the trails eventually cooling in the droplets wake. He was bracing himself on the counter with his hands, listening to the pitter-patter of his tears hitting the sink to try and ground himself. Every time his attention would shift from the tapping of the droplets to the sound of his own sobs being muffled by his arm, it would just make him cry harder, sometimes even dry heaving with the force of his weeps of anguish. He eventually gathers himself enough to stand up straight, and pulls a handkerchief from his suit's bust pocket to wipe his eyes.

"you need to be okay, Annus" he says to himself

"crying is for the weak, Annus"

"don't tell me you've gone sappy, Annus"

"don't fail him now, Annus"

"try not to be a failure for once, annus"

Annus' mind is racing at a million miles per hour, but he doesn't have the time to slow it. He goes to the bathroom door, unlocks and opens it, and walks over to the front porch where Unus is waiting for him. He walks to the untaken chair like a shamed dog, his head held down in shame. He failed Unus.

He is a bad friend.
