"How... Odd."

Time sounded oddly delighted, almost joyful, in being surrounded by darkness and hearing that heart-stopping ribbit of the ever-distant darkness.

He almost trembled from the feeling.

Such was the power of something unexpected.

It has been such a long time since anything surprised him.

Time always passes, from darkness comes light and from light darkness is born.

"It has been so lon--" A multitude of swords appeared around him, a single bells jingling. "-g." skewering through his body.

"I won't let you get to her!"

(fun fact: I image this like this scene lmao)

"Oh my, I was a second too late." He simple said, the swords rusting and falling away into dust.

Another jingle.

And his arms popped off followed by his head.

"You really have a magnificent contract, if we had the time I'd love for you to tell me the story of how you got the darkness devil to make a contract with you." The head said, the arm knocking it back against the body and the tissues connected, he flexed his arm. "That might have been something I missed."

More swords appeared but this time a flick of his wrist, the cracking of the joint, echoed so loudly that the metal crumbled to pieces.

Sho suddenly appeared to him, hand held up in a twisting motion and his head once again popped off, twisted off by darkness itself.

Hand reaching out of nowhere, emerging from the surrounding darkness and tearing at the body, mangling it beyond use.

"But even so, you are no darkness, you are but a cheap copy."

His voice alone sent her sliding back, the sound waves through the air.

She felt her legs trembling from the strain, using other devil powers weighed on her just like it weighed on her. Using the blood devil made her feel lightheaded if too much blood was used, the fire devil made her overheat, the conquest devil sent painful shock waves up up her arms at each blast, each things the respective devil felt but was built to endure... Not her.

And the ever weighing darkness was not something a mere devil was meant to wield willy nilly.

The darkness was already misting on the edges, the swords were already brittle and the arms were weak, she has no idea how much longer this will hole up.

She grabbed him with the hand, if she can destroy his core, and rushed him, grabbing a sword out of the darkness and swing, again and again, dicing his body.

"Enough!"

The order caused her body to freeze up, arms held above her head, trembling under the strain.

"Down!"

Her body was pummeled into the ground by the words, smacked on her front, blood splattering around as.

"Ghu!" She coughed tar-ish substance, even her blood was mixing with the darkness of the void.

The mist of darkness let up, revealing the world again.

"I admit, you put up a good fight." He said, dusting off his shoulder.

"Don't lie." She clenched her fists, gritting her teeth. "I did nothing to you."

"But when time has come, nothing can stop it."

"Sho?!"

"NO!"

She turned her head.

Himeno had no idea what happened, even Ghost was uneased and didn't want her to leave the building.

But here stood what looked like the old man that had been staring at them before, standing unscathed in the middle of a destroyed road with many dead humans and Sho in a bad posture.

"GET AWAY!!" She flinched, Sho to be desperate in such a way.

"Silence." It was like an invisible force slammed her devil's head into the concrete, sending a dust cloud and debris up.

"Sho!" But she suddenly felt heavy, frozen, under the weight of the old man's gaze.

Shaking with unfelt fear, what is going on here?

"Your time was up long ago, I came to make sure it is as such."

Time moved forwards but froze for a moment.

"You are tenacious." He said, feeling the twitching grip around his ankle. The contract devil pushing up against his orders and grabbing him with the remaining strength of hers.

"I can't let you." She hissed out.

He slashed his hand through the air, shock blasting through her elbow and cleaving it off, freeing himself.

"Stop." She muttered, looking at him, this can't be happening.

She watched him lift his hand.

"Stop." She said louder, coughing soot and black chunks out.

Her mind was turning, how to stop time? Even the future devil was only able to do it momentarily... Wait.

"Future: stop."

A blue haze passed over the world, momentarily the weight was lifted off her.

Himeno only saw the hand almost touching her before being thrown aside, the hand closing around Sho's forearm.

The skin instantly started the rot and decay, crumble away.

"You." Time couldn't believe how she kept getting in his way, so much so that he hadn't moved from that position until she kicked him in the side, sending him bouncing through the road.

She regenerated her arm but it took much longer then before, snail's pace but at least it was something.

"I will not let you take her." She knew he heard her despite the distance. "And you won't let her go." She held her arms down by her side but away from her body, palms open, inviting a strike or anything else, a defiant sharp toothed smile on her face. "So lets make a contract."
