ZITHULELE MTHEMBU

The drive to my parents house was nerve wrecking because of the news I am about to bear to the both of them. Knowing my dad I know that he's going to be disappointed because he's very traditional and cultural too, and having a child out of wedlock is something that is not acceptable kwa Mthembu.

When I arrived at their house I punched in the gate code and drove in and parked my car in the drive way.

I walked inside the house and the first thing I smelled was my mother's cookings. I walked up to the kitchen and I saw her fiddling with the pots.

"It smells good in here" I comment as I reach at her.

"Of it has to smell good because I'm making your favorite "

I smiled and my stomach immediately embarrassed me and made a grawling sound.

Oh Lord know how my mouth is becoming more watery as I look at the dumpling inside the pot and the smell of the beef stew attacking my nostrils.

"Uphilile" [ are you well] I asked her.

"You know mntanam I'm always good  as long as your father is spoiling me with gifts and being spontaneous I'm okay"

I chuckle "of course you are and you take great pride with it"

"Of course she has to do so she's my wife and who am I'm not to grace her with anything she wants" my dad says as he walks in the kitchen.

[Unjani ndodana?"[ How are you son?]

"Ngiphilile Mthembu wena sihamba njani?"[I'm doing well Mthembu and is it going on your side?]

"Haii I'm not complaining because I've got my wife with me " as he kissed her cheek and my mother blushed and you could see how smitten she was because her cheeks became red instantly. It's like they never grow out of each, they act as if they are still teenagers who just met each and not two grown ups with six children.

Yeah I did say six. My mom is very much fertile and not mentioning my dad who's got stamina for day. Don't ask me how I know this, the walls of this house are very thin.

"So what brings you here"

"Must I have a reason to come and visit my parents?" looking at him.

"No but if you are going to disturb my day with my wife on a random Saturday afternoon than ..." he shrugged his shoulders up.

Sigh. "There's a reason for this visit but tell you after eating "  "Mmh" he says.

Me and my dad walked to his liquor bar and settled for a drink. We catched up on the latest things including what is happening with our businesses. Thirty minutes later my mom called to eat.

"Mmh mama this looks good"

"You know I always go all out even with the smallest occasions"

"I know you do. When I leave ngi hamba ne skhaftini"[ .....I'm leaving with a lunchbox]

"Don't worry I already packed it for you"

We dished up and digged in without wasting any time as we made small talks  about the latest. After eating and cleaning up after ourselves we walked to the lounge and sat down.

My dad looked at me as if he's waiting for me to say something.

"Khuluma ndoda"[ Talk man]

" Eish baba something came to my attention a few days ago and I don't know to tell you. I don't want to say it's a mistake because things like this are never a mistake "
