"Millie?" The teacher calls.
"Here Ms. Lockdew!"
"Damon?"
"Here Ms. Wet dog!"
"Damon!" She glares. "Do you want to go to the principal again?"
I roll my eyes. "And what? Call my parents? Well, lucky me, my parents don't even care!"
Ms. Lockdew sucks in a breath. "Damon. I hope you notice that you've been to the principals office over twenty times this year."
I scoff. "And I hope you notice how your whole body jiggles when you walk down the stairs."
The whole class erupts into laughter. Ms. Lockdew' s face turns into a deep shade of red. She looks like she's about to explode.
"Principals office. Now." She says harshly through gritted teeth.
"Whatever. You're just mad I'm speaking the truth." I smirk.
Just then, the bell rings. Everyone cheers and leaves the room, leaving me and Ms. Lockdew alone in the room.
"Get out."
"I never wanted to be here in the first place you wrinkly little rat." I snap at her before picking up my bag and trudging out of her room.
I search for Ryan in the sea of people. When I see him, I run besides him.
"Today's the day." I tell Ryan as we walk down the crowded halls.
He rolls his eyes. "Thats what you've been saying everyday since last month."
"Well, today is the day. The real day. I-"
I get interrupted by a tall brunette with mascara smeared all over her eyes. Geez, it looks like someone's been bawling their eyes out.
"Ryan! How could you cheat on me with Rebecca?! I trusted both of you guys! Ugh! I thought you loved me!"
She continued her speech about how big of a jerk he was. Thank god the bell stopped her as she started screaming.
She gives him a sharp glare before running off.
"Another girl? It's the fourth time today."
Ryan shrugs. "You see how many girls I can pull? And yet you still call me ugly."
I scoff. "I don't know what girls see in you, honestly."
***
"I'm scared." I whisper.
Ryan scoffs. "What's there to be scared of? The worse that can happen is that she rejects you. Don't worry, she's not even that pretty."
I groan. "Only if you knew what love feels like."
He picks up his phone and starts texting. "Let's just get this over with."
I suck in a breath and walk towards her, a rose in my hand.
"Oh hi Damon!" She beams. Her long slick black hair is tied in a messy bun, perfectly matching her pale smooth skin. Her eyes shine so bright, even in the darkest times.
"Oh um hi Yasmine." I start, but I stumble over my words.
"You idiot!" Ryan whispers. "Say you like her!"
"Oh i came her today because I- well..."
"I like you!"
Her face pales.
"O-oh..." She says.
I wait for her response.
"I don't like you back.."
My heart drops.
I didn't hear what else she said.
I must have heard it wrong.
How can I be so dumb when it comes to love?
I try to speak, but I can't get anything out of my throat.
"I'm really sorry, Damon." She whispers. "I only see you as a friend. Plus, I-I like someone else."
"Oh no, it's okay." I say as I try to keep my eyes from tearing up. "Who do you like?"
She looks up at me and looks around us. She leans in towards my ear and whispers his name.
I drop the rose.
