Midnight

Five minutes until New year. The conga line was still parading around the room and the noise we were all making was nearly deafening. All of a sudden, I felt as if my bladder was about to explode.
"Sorry Adam, I have to go find a restroom but I'll be back soon. I think all that alcohol finally went through my system," I told him.
"Okay but you'd better not miss our kiss," he replied.
"Don't worry," I said as I headed off in search of a bathroom. Everyone was crowding around the middle of the ballroom so I struggled to find my way out. Finally, I pushed my way to the entrance. There was a bathroom right near the doorway, thank god. I rushed in, feeling as if I couldn't hold it any longer.
"Oh crap!" I said to myself. The line was out the door. I couldn't wait that long. I tapped on the woman's shoulder in front of me.
"Excuse me, do you know where I can find another restroom?"
"There's one in the coffee shop across the street," she said.
I raced across the street and ran into the coffee shop. The bathroom door was locked, "key needed" the sign read. I walked up to the counter, where a line of people waited and asked the cashier for a key.
"Sorry, but you have to buy something to use our restroom."
"I'll buy something after, please," I pleaded.
"Sorry, it's our policy. You can't-" He was cut off by the man ordering.
"She's with me," he said.
"Oh, well why didn't you just say so in the first place?" he asked as he handed me the key. After I relieved myself, I went back to the man to thank him.
"No problem," he said. With only two minutes left, I ran back towards the ballroom, trying not to fall in my high heels. I reached the building just in time. Two security guards were blocking the doors.
"Hello, can I get in please," I asked.
"No one is allowed back in until after midnight," one of them spoke.
"What?! No no no, I was just in there and I left to go to the bathroom." I turned around and noticed that all of the girls had cleared out of the restroom.
"Sorry, there was an announcement stating that all doors would be closed three minutes prior to midnight."
"Why?! I didn't even hear that announcement."
"The hostess doesn't want any drunk lunatics getting in at midnight to crash the party," he told me.
"You don't understand, my boyfriend is in there waiting for me!"
"I'm truly sorry but I was given orders and I must obey them." Realizing that I had no chance of getting in, I sat against the wall and started sobbing. I couldn't stop thinking about how disappointed Adam would be.
"Did your date ditch you too?" a British voice from the corner asked.
"No! He did not ditch me. In fact, he's in that room waiting for me to kiss him at midnight," I yelled angrily through my tears. The clock on the wall read 11:59. The British boy came into the light, but a mask was covering his face.
"Hmm, I need someone to kiss, you can't get to your someone kiss, sounds like a perfect match if you ask me."
"Don't even think about it," I said venomously. In my heart, I knew kissing someone else was wrong, but in my head, all I could think about was the promise I made to myself. Besides, weren't New Year kisses pretty meaningless anyways?
"Stop thinking like that," I thought to myself. Then I realized something. Adam could be in there about to kiss another girl and I wouldn't even know. Sure, that would bother me a little but I would get over it. So why can't I kiss this guy? NO, Adam and I have too much respect for each other to do something like that. This one minute until midnight was the longest I had ever experienced, with so many horrible thoughts running through my head. The British boy, which I had decided to call him, came closer and sat next to me. I scooted a few inches away to show him that I wasn't interested. He ran his fingers through his hair and let out a sigh, gosh he sure was hot. I could here people chanting inside and I knew that the ball was about to drop. Adam was either worried sick about me or he had his hands on another girl.
"Five! Four! Three! Two! One! Happy new year!" I grabbed the boy and our lips met, but I knew that it was completely wrong. He didn't object, and we made out for a solid 20 seconds.
"Wow I just kissed Taylor Swift" he said as he laughed.
"How did you know it was me," I asked.
"Blonde hair, long legs, it was pretty obvious."
"Now pull off your mask so I can see who I just kissed," I ordered. He untied his mask and slipped it off over his head.
I gasped and let out a screech as my heart stopped in my chest.
"Hello love," he said. Now I realized why his voice had sounded all too familiar.
