Calm Before the Storm

The unnerving sound of a malicious laughter echoes around me as I sprint down a dark  hallway that seems to go on forever. My lungs burn with overexertion, and the servos in my legs complain loudly from the abuse I've been putting them through. The poor lighting makes the walls look as if they are closing in around me as they rush past. With every passing second, the shadowy phantom gradually gains on me, and despite my exhaustion, I push myself to run faster.

Suddenly everything goes sideways as I trip, my wrist painfully bearing most of the fall. Despite being able to make a speedy recover, I am unable to run anymore as my left leg drags with every step. I look around frantically for the figure that was chasing me, but it is nowhere in sight at the moment.

I curse silently at the technician that had worked on me last. He had done a shoddy job with the wiring repair, opting to just twist the ends together rather than do it the right way. Knowing that the impact most likely caused the wires to disconnect, I dig my fingers into my thigh in search for the fuse panel. After failing to locate it, I realize that some of my fur came off under my nails, along with strips of bloody skin.

The confusing sight of it fascinates me, and my attention is only pulled away from it when I hear a low, drawn out sound of something exhaling from the darkness behind me. I can only watch helplessly as the monster draws nearer, bringing along a horrible smell of decay that makes me retch until I'm kneeling on the floor.

I try to get away from the stench coming from the dark figure, but my legs refuse to work. They slide around uselessly on the tile floor as if they were soaking wet, and when I look down at them, I realize that my skin is ripping at the seams. The flesh tears as it stretches over my kneecaps, revealing ivory white bone instead of ebony colored metal. Smiling at my distress, the shadow-clad figure presses something sharp against my throat after pinning me to the wall. Before I have time to react, it slides the blade across my neck in a one quick motion, and my mouth fills with the coppery taste of blood as I struggle for air.

I snap awake on the ground in a cold sweat, untangling the bed sheet thats wrapped around my neck after realizing its whats causing me to not be able to breath. After I come to terms that it was just another nightmare, I try in vain to keep the imagery from leaving my memory. Despite my best attempts, it gradually fades away as it has many times before.

It feels like Im supposed to remember something important. Its dumb to think that it may be a repressed memory of some kind, but the more times I have the same dream, the less I am unconvinced. I rub my head in frustration. Did I fall off my bed again?

The silence is broken by a noisy metallic clicking sound as I reattach my hook. After it's fully secured, I peek through the curtains to look at the clock on the wall. We won't start opening for another twenty minutes. I scan the room and see Freddy already awake and setting up the tables.

His deft hands expertly shuffle several thin packages like a deck of cards before he begins laying them one by one along the table. The constant boredom makes this act a mesmerizing spectacle, and I'm too distracted to notice the person standing at my side until they politely clear their throat to get my attention, nearly making me jump out of my skin. Oh, that's right. I have a new roommate.

"How did you sleep?" Toy Foxy asks while covering her mouth to hide an amused smile.

"I slept alright." I grumble while rubbing my eyes with the palm of my hand
