SARAH'S POVWhen I finally woke up, Bucky and Steve were nowhere to be found, and it was just me and Calypso. I turned to face her little crib, watching her as she slept. Her tiny fists clenched and unclenched and her feet moved around, as if running. Perhaps she was fighting in her dream.
I stood from the bed and leaned over, gently lifting her up and away from her enemies, and bringing her back to reality. She opened her eyes lazily, peering up at me with those beautiful blue eyes of hers. They matched Bucky's perfectly.
She blinked, almost trying to process who I was, and rubbed her eyes tiredly. I lifted her so she was lying on my chest, her head in the crook of my neck. I swayed around and quietly sung her a song I remembered from my childhood.
And all the roads we have to walk are winding
And all the lights that lead us there are blinding
There are many things that I would
Like to say to youBut I don't know how
Because maybe
You're gonna be the one that saves me
And after all
You're my wonderwall.
I was still quietly humming when I got the feeling that something was wrong. It wasn't something I could quite put into words- I just knew right then that I needed to get out of here.
I glanced at the clock. It was 3:48, and Steve said he'd come at four. Hopefully he was punctual today.
I placed Calypso gently back into her crib and shut the door to the room, freezing the lock. Grabbing my clothes from my bag, I threw off my hospital gown and pulled a pair of leggings and a tight athletic shirt on, also tying on my sneakers. Luckily I had brought clothes I could also fight in.
I shoved all my stuff into my bag and threw it over my shoulders, tying it tight, and pulled Calypso from her crib. She was still half asleep, luckily for me, so she wouldn't make much noise now. And I really needed her to be silent for us to get out of here.
I unfroze the lock to the door and stuck my head out ever so slightly, making sure the coast was clear. When it was, I silently slipped down the hallway and hurried to the closest exit. I was almost home free when I heard gunshots to my left. I cradled Calypso even closer, and ducked behind a nurses station.
I looked between the chair and desk and saw Hydra agents creeping down the hall. They wore very different Hydra uniforms than I was used to seeing- I wondered if it was a new branch, because we got rid of most of the U.S. bases. They had heavy artillery.
Several nurses and doctors had already ran, but one nurse was trapped against the wall. An agent walked up to her, grabbing her by the throat and slamming her against the drywall.
"Tell me where Sarah Connors is right this second or I'll blow your head off!" He shouted, and she clawed at his throat, gasping for air. She couldn't answer him.
He raised his gun to her temple and I shot my hand out, freezing the guy solid. The nurse, bewildered at first, recovered and shattered his icy hand, taking off to safety.
The remaining agents whipped around, searching for where I could be. I knew I couldn't stay hidden anymore.
I reached out from under the desk and pressed my palm to the floor, frost seeping from my fingers to the cool tile, engulfing the agent's boots. They raised their guns and shot randomly around the room, and I protected myself with a thin sheet of ice. Their bullets ripped through the desk but were stopped before hitting my spine.
