Reane froze at the sight of the masked ice cream maker, her unfeeling face breaking into a sweet smile. He's the only one who can see that smile, or make her smile like that.
Basically, the relationship between Rod and Reane are mentor and student, and I have already aged down Rod to his late twenties. Reane will have some sort of crush on rod, but the relationship will eventually become friendship, but through loads of toxicity, then finally healthy.
