As the weeks flew by, Lisa was hating herself even more as she continued to just stare at Tina whenever she walked by. She didn't know what was happening, but she didn't want it to happen. She started avoiding Tina and Chloe and hung out Sky. The two were inseparable. They hung out after school and talked quite a bit. But the only class they had together was art.
"Ugh, when are they going to put up the basketball lists. The suspense is killing me!" Sky said to Lisa one break time at the cafeteria.
"I agree, I want to know if I got into the part or not", Lisa replied.
"Oh, you'll get into the musical, your acting was really good".
"Ha ha! It wasn't that good. This one guy auditioned for the same part, and he was way better than me".
"You'll still get it. I didn't exactly do well in basketball though. I could've done better".
"Well lets practice", Lisa got up and said, "Only way we'll do well is if we try our best". Sky got up and the two had a blast playing basketball for the rest of lunch. Eventually when the bell rang though, the two got the surprise of their life when they found out the sheets wouldn't be posted till next week so they could all "focus on their exams" as their teacher put it.
It was a tough week for the girls as they sat their exams and finished up their assessments. Sky had decided not to study and just to her assignments the night before, but Lisa felt quite under pressure to do well. Her mum had also said that if Lisa did not manage to get good grades this term, she would have to quit the Arts subjects. Lisa could not afford that and had to put in her best efforts, especially after last year, when Lisa almost failed grade ten. She had not expected the work level to rise, but this year she was prepared and made a study schedule for every class.
When Lisa walked into the next book club meeting, she took her seat next to Ivy, rather reluctantly, to begin reading. Ivy had touched any of the books, and Lisa was forced to do all the reading. On Friday, things took a twist.
Lisa arrived at school on time like usual and found a group of students at the noticeboard. She noticed that there were two sheets of paper. For the Basketball Team and the musical. Suddenly Lisa's heart melted. Searching through the Basketball sheet was Tina, Chloe, Ivy and Sky waiting behind them. "Ms. Martin! What do you think you are doing there?"
Uh oh! She turned around and came face to face with the towering figure of none other than her book club teacher. She had a straight face which told Lisa, she was in trouble. "Come with me!"
Lisa followed reluctantly. She couldn't bear the punishment she would receive. What would her parents say? Would she be suspended or expelled? What did she do? Was she in the musical or not? As Lisa followed, her questions reduced, and worries increased. She was going to be expelled, she knew it. "Ms. Martin, please sit down."
Lisa sat in her office, as the teacher explained how she thought Lisa's behavior need to change. She also thought that she saw particularly curious things happening, but she thought she imagined it. Finally, the teacher got to the point.
"Lisa, I just don't think you are suitable for the book club. You seem to have a lot on your case, with stress, anger issues, social anxiety and behavioral issues. It is my thorough opinion that I cannot allow you into my club. Am I clear?"
Lisa stared into those cold eyes of her teacher. They weren't that cold, more sympathetic. But still cold. "Yes!" A single word left her mouth before she left the office leaving her ex-teacher staring after her. It was true, ever since she had met Sky, even before she met her, she got into quite a lot of trouble, both in school and out. But it hurt that no one realized it wasn't her fault. Lisa hurried back to the noticeboard where she met a very anxious looking Sky.
"Oh Lis! You don't want to see!" She said while trying to stop her. Lisa pushed past her and looked through both sheets. She saw Tina, Chloe, Ivy and Sky's name on basketball but when she saw through the cast lists, she was disappointed to see her name was on the bottom in callbacks. Lisa felt heartbroken. She had lost two of her passions and the day hadn't even started. Why did bad luck always have to visit her. She didn't do anything wrong.
