Hanji's POV
It's never-ending. Every night, I woke up covered in sweat and felt my heart pounding against my chest. I need to take more than a few seconds to calm my heart before attempting to sleep. Every once in a while, Levi would pop into my room, asking if I was okay. And as always, I would respond that I was fine and wanted to be left alone. Not this night.
"Come down to the kitchen," he says in a stern tone, "and this is not a request."
"I can go back to sleep."
"Hanji."
"I'm fine!" I pleaded, "I swear, I'm fine, Levi. There's nothing wrong with me." Through the darkness, I could feel his icy-cold stare, and the only thing I could do was gulp in fear. Before I knew it, I was on my feet and walking out the door to follow Levi. "Fine..." was the only thing that came out of my mouth as I walked in the darkness.
Levi flicked on the light switch, blinding us both. It was like he was ignoring me as he made his way to a kettle and picked it up. "What do you want?"
"Hm?"
The sound of rushing water fills my ears as Levi fills the kettle with water from the sink. "Tea. What kind of tea do you want? And no, I will not be making coffee for 2 reasons. 1, I'm not too fond of the smell of it. And 2, you don't need the caffeine this early."
"Um, but doesn't tea have caffeine anyway?" That icy stare made an appearance once more as I spoke. "Shouldn't I be allowed to have coffee?"
"Due to reason 1, no coffee."
I rolled my eyes, shaking my head. "I don't like tea. Do you have any hot chocolate mixes?"
"I can do you one better: I can make one."
Levi never ceased to amaze me. Well, my memory loss doesn't help at all. I don't know much about Levi other than a few basics. I watched him whip up a hot chocolate from scratch without breaking out a recipe book. Lost in his talent, I didn't realize he finished my cup of hot chocolate made with fresh ingredients and hot to the touch.
"Drink," he says as he prepares his cup of tea, "I hope you'll like it."
I gave him my thanks as I drank it. The creamy milk was swirling and mixing with the chocolate tasted so good that words could not express it. I didn't notice he added tiny marshmallows, but I tasted those sweet goodies. Sounds of enjoyment escaped my lips because Levi started talking to me again.
"Do you like it?"
"I love it..." I say with the softest smile. I felt my entire face melting as I spoke. "This is great..."
"I'm glad you like it."
"I'm almost forgetting why I'm here."
"You had nightmares."
"I know why I'm here."
"You just said you didn't."
"I said I was almost forgetting. Keyword: almost."
We shared our laughter, having a great time together. Levi shared a few stories with me about his job as a teacher. Well, the majority of his stories were about stupid kids doing stupid things. For example, this kid stuck slime into every other student's locker. Everyone's things were covered in slime and the kid was sent to detention. Levi said the kid got off with a slap on the wrist because his parents were the biggest donors to the school's extracurriculars.
"That stupid..." I say, finishing the last of his hot chocolate. "But I enjoyed hearing that story. I think I'll be able to sleep a bit more."
"Okay."
Climbing back into bed, I wish I could hear Levi's voice telling me more stories to entertain me. I want to feel happy about Levi's kindness and openness to me. However, there's something inside of me that's telling me otherwise. Like it's wrong for me to feel this way to Levi. Is this my forever nightmare?
