Boys' Night

We popped up in the dark and silent hallways, quietly trailing further into the darkness. Unsure of why we were here or where we were headed to, I remained behind Daemon and let him take the lead; afterall, he was the one with night vision and not me.

Pulling him backwards after what seemed like a few minutes, I whispered, "You do know that we could get into trouble for leaving our dorm by this time of the night, right?"

But he ignored me, causing my heart to pound even more in fear. I just couldn't understand why we were here and it gave me the chills because there was every possibility of getting busted, which could lead to some kind of serious punishment from the headmistress.

I gulped when we walked past the unrestricted part of the hallways and took the left turn which lead to the restricted areas.

"I sense trouble", I whispered.

This place wasn't totally dark like the former, but was lit up by a faint golden light. As we walked past an array of silver doors, I let my gaze swirl around the whole place until we arrived in front of a particular door.

Daemon came to a sudden halt.

"This is it", he whispered.

With my mind completely immersed in fear of the unknown, I asked, "Are you sure of what this place is?"

"Dude...you ask a lot of questions when you're anxious", he blurted.

I sighed, watching as he took the metallic door knob and squeezed it. My gaze was met with the pure darkness that engulfed the room.

'Cool, another dark place'

'Thud!', echoed the door as it mysteriously shut itself behind us.

I gulped when I realized that the room was even darker than normal; I was deafened by the silence that encroached the room and couldn't see a thing, unlike the hallway.

"Dude, what's this place", I asked, shivering in fear.

But Daemon remained silent, peering at me with his golden - yellow eyes; it felt as though he could see the fear in my eyes.

"Say something...this place is creepy", I spat.

He chuckled.

"Gimme your hand", he requested.

I stretched forth my hand, allowing him to lead me further into the darkness, until suddenly...

The lights came on!

My eyes shot wide open and I gasped when I realized that we were...upside down!

In an attempt to look down, it felt as though everywhere was spinning in grey. Fear rang within my heart with each step we took further away from the door; underneath us was nothing but a dark void, vividly distinguished from the bright rays of light that illuminated our path.

Our laughter reverberated throughout the empty hall when Daemon told a joke;

"Guess what?", he asked.

I halted, shooting at him with a curious gaze.

"What?"

"Kira and I are--"

An awkward smile crawled its way upon his face when I interrupted him:

"You fucking asked her out, didn't you?"

I beamed.

"It's great news", I said.

"Yeah...it just felt right to ask her and it felt much better when she accepted me"

"I'm happy for you, dude"

After what felt like a second of silence, I asked with a slight frown:

"So, are you gonna tell me where we're going...or? "

He sighed.

"You'll see...it's even more lit than this place"

Soon enough, we arrived in front of another door which looked exactly like the first one. The lights faded into total darkness when Daemon took its knob and squeezed it.

'Another room', I thought

As we took a few steps further, the room became illuminated by the bright reflection of our images from tall mirrors, all arrayed in a straight line.

"Okay, this is dope"

Just like in the other room, my voice echoed throughout the whole place while we trailed down the narrow path. Arriving at a certain point, I looked back and noticed how the mirrors spanned further away into a diminishing darkness, up till a point where I couldn't see.

My eyes swung from one mirror to another, allowing me to see various versions of myself which I admired so much.

"Cool huh?", Daemon asked.

He must've noticed the astonished look on my face as I gazed at each reflection of myself.

"Yeah, I gotta admit", I said.

"But how did you get to know these places?", I wondered.

He chuckled.

"Well,Kira and I took a private tour around the academy and she showed me a LOT of cool stuff...including these rooms"

In a bid to touch one of the mirrors, I reached out to my reflection with a finger; but that was when Daemon's voice banged into my ears:

"Don't!"

Lowering my hand from the magnificent reflection, I turned away and shot at him a lifted brow.

"As cool as this place looks, you don't wanna touch any mirrors at all...believe me, there are serious consequences", he warned.

My frown grew deeper.

"What consequences?", I asked.

He sighed.

"These mirrors are portals to some forbidden realms where all these versions of you exist...you could get trapped in any of them forever", he explained.

I shuddered.

"So, this is like an infinite room of horror mirrors, right?"

He chuckled.

"You could call it that"

I halted and groaned after walking for what seemed like a LOT of minutes, panting heavily as though I had just climbed a mountain.

"Dude, I'm exhausted...where exactly are we going?"

"The library...we've gotta do some research on what's really happening to you. It's important to figure out how you finally cast a magic spell without even unlocking your energy torrent" he explained.

A sigh escaped my mouth while I stroked my forehead in disappointment;

"So that's what this is about?"

"We're having a boys' night in a...library?"

I frowned, feeling nothing but utter disappointment.

He chuckled once again before giving me a slight nudge on my shoulder.

"Yeah...and the library isn't like you've ever imagined", he said.

"This is dumb and I --"

I got interrupted when he grabbed my wrist and recited the basic teleportation spell, plummetting us into thick darkness at once.
