12 | Body

I walked through the forest, separating from Ellie as I kept hearing her voice through the radio, I rolled my eyes "What's wrong?" I spoke sternly.

"Well, I don't feel safe being alone especially when there's a killer about," Ellie pointed out the obvious.

"You know I forgot that there was a killer about, I'm just out here in the forest doing my daily nighttime walks," I spoke sarcastically as I heard her long sigh.

"You aren't funny," I heard her say.

"Wasn't trying to be, now can you shut up and get some work done," I snapped as I turned off the radio for the time being, I continued to walk as I saw a light from the ground "The fuck?" I questioned quietly, I slowly moved down to get a better look.

I felt something dripping down on the back of my neck, I moved my hand to rub the liquid thinking it was starting to rain, I looked at my hand to see deep red liquid, until I looked up ever so slowly to see a body hanging there "What the..." I muttered as I grabbed my phone immediately and called my boss.

"Look I need a forensic team down immediately, I've found a body, I looked at the kid's face as I exhaled "It's Lily Wilkinson's body, the girl who disappeared in 2020, look boss it looks like this has been done recently," I said as I watched over the body.

"Yeah I'm staying here, I'll wait until they arrive," I replied as I hung up my phone and looked at the body "Poor kid," I rubbed my brow and remembered Ellie being out there alone.

I grabbed my radio "Ellie you hear me?" I raised my voice slightly but no reply.

"Ellie! Ellie you there?" I panicked as I continued to raise my voice into the radio, I felt a tap on my back as I jumped out of my skin to see her standing there with a smile on her face "I'm here what's up.." before she continued she saw the body hanging there.

"That's not good..." she said quietly.

I raised my brow at her "You think?" I exhaled "I need you to hide," I continued.

"Why?" She replied.

"Because I have a full team of forensics coming and we've already had the talk about what will happen," I took out a cigarette and lit up before smoking.

"Fine fine, I'll head back to your car," she said as she started to walk off, to be honest, I had an awful feeling about her going by herself but she ain't stupid, she looked like it but she wasn't. I'm just worried if this crime was done all of a sudden, my mind kept going back to Vae... if she was still alive.

15 minutes went by, I watched the forensics team do their thing as I kept worrying about Ellie being alone in the middle of nowhere, I rubbed the bridge of my nose before excusing myself to go and find Ellie, I spoke softly "Ellie?" I looked around as I got closer to my car, I just saw blood. I took my pistol out of my jacket "Ellie?" I repeated as I kept the gun aimed high.

I turned around slowly to my driver's side as I saw Ellie sitting below the car with her hand on her stomach groaning in agony, I ran over to her and placed my hand on her stomach "You're okay," I told her softly whilst she grabbed onto my hand and cried.

"What happened? Can you try and tell me?" I spoke to her softly but loudly to get her attention, she cried gripping my arm tighter, as I lifted her in my arms and walked around to the passenger side and gently lifted her into the seat before getting in my side and starting to drive to the hospital.

"Ellie, can you tell me what happened?" I asked again but a bit more sternly.

"I- I uh walked back to the car and I got this phone call from my parents then all of a sudden I felt this sharp pain in my stomach and I turned around to see the figure and it left me there to bleed.." she cried as she told me what happened, I kept driving and my hands tightened on the steering wheel.

Finally, I made it to the hospital where I carried Ellie in "I need some help, she's been stabbed I need her admitted immediately," I yelled as the nurses quickly showed me to a room where I could put her down onto the bed softly, I grabbed her face gently and looked in her eyes "You'll be okay, I promise," I rubbed her tears off her cheek with my thumb as I get escorted out of the room.

But I didn't stay at the hospital, I left and ran out of the hospital in anger, I yelled at the top of my lungs "Come after me if you want me so badly. Come for me!" I raised my voice as I felt the weight of guilt drop down onto me immediately.

I should've told her to stay with me, I blamed myself again and again. None of this would've happened if I didn't get Ellie involved, I just hope she survived, or I would blame myself more.
