nova woke up on saturday to her alarm and sighed softly as she lay in her bed, staring up at the ceiling. the match is today. i have to go to the gym again. she didn't want to go because of tanaka, but she also hadn't decided on a definitive answer to shimizu's question. it would be 'no', but she hesitated because of her father. he loved volleyball, and a part of nova wanted to try to connect with what he felt through watching the sport. it is a stupid reason to think of saying yes, nova argued with herself.

as she stood in front of her closet, she realized that she didn't need to wear her uniform, as it was the weekend. she pressed her lips together and eventually decided to wear an oversized navy blue sweatshirt with a large gold star printed on the front. she paired it with a white midi pleated skirt and navy star-printed socks that matched the sweatshirt. then, standing in front of her mirror, she decided to style her hair in a side braid. she often kept it down but occasionally braided it. when she finished, she looked over herself one last time to make sure everything was in order, before nodding and leaving her room.

nova walked into the kitchen to see her mother there, as usual. sitting down at the table, she realized something. i could ask mother what she thinks of me becoming the volleyball team's manager. maybe she will know what would be the best choice. nodding to herself, she waited for her mother to place both of their food down and settle into her seat to ask, "may i ask for your advice on a matter?"

hana visibly brightened, but toned it down for nova's sake. "of course, but we need to pray first."

they clasped their hands together and sat quietly as they prayed separately. once they'd both finished, hana gestured to nova. "okay, tell me what you need help with."

nova fumbled with her chopsticks as she tried to think of how to explain the situation to her mother. eventually, she decided to tell hana everything she could starting from when yamaguchi explained tsukishima's and his involvement with volleyball. when she'd finished, hana nodded slowly, before clarifying, "so, you don't know whether to become the manager or not?"

nova nodded in reply, taking a bite of her breakfast as she waited for her mother to speak. "well, i think you should do it."

nova stared at her. "why?" she wasn't going to apply for the position if her mother didn't give her a logical reason to.

"it will give you the chance to meet more people, and i think you'll genuinely like the sport. you're more similar to your father than you think," hana explained, smiling softly at nova.
