It's the last day of school, and again we don't do anything, they should just have let us out last Friday. This entire week we've been going places. And today it's raining so our plans to pick up trash are canceled. It actually sounded fun to me. My teacher starts roll call, the she's staring at each kid as she does so.
"Ever Blake?" She continues to call classmates as I answer "Here." Today is the last day of school. In a couple of days I go to Deerton, Michigan with my grandparents to visit my aunt for four weeks. I don't remember the last time I was there very well, but I miss them. I miss my mom already, and I get to see her in a couple hours. Class is dismissed and everyone practically jumps out of the front doors. I hang behind and grab my empty book bag from my locker. I almost miss the pictures I have left to take down.
I remember putting them up the first day of school. Pictures of family on the inside and a few quotes I like on the outside. I have about five of my mom and I. Maybe one or two of my dad. And my brother mixed in there some where.
My very dumb smart phone starts to buzz as I close my locker and stuff the photos into my no longer empty book bag.
"Ever, are you walking or coming outside. I've been waiting for ten minutes." My mom hisses in a non humane way.
"Sorry. And it's only been five."
