A Jay and A Berry (Warriors)

Chapter 1

"Jayfeather!" A voice called from the bramble tunnel, as a cream-colored tom shoved his way through.

Berrynose.. Jayfeather thought, as he stopped sorting through the last of herbs shoved into the herb store.

"What is it, Berrynose?" Jayfeather mewed irritably, as his jayfeather-blue eyes stared at the tom.

"I think my paw might have a stone in it," Berrynose responded dramatically.

Oh Starclan.. Jayfeather thought. "I'll check it, Berrynose." Jayfeather began to pad toward the distressed tom, grabbing the tom's paw observing it.

No stones.. what an overdramatic tom. Jayfeather thought, opening his maw to speak only to be cut off by Berrynose.

"Ow! Be gentle, Jayfeather." Berrynose mewed.

"Sorry," Jayfeather muttered, How did I even hurt you? He thought. "No stones," Jayfeather announced. "You just scraped it."

"Are you sure?" Berrynose said egostically.

"Yes Berrynose, no stones." Jayfeather reasured him, as he began to let go.

"I can get you some Marigold, if you'd like." He offered.

"No thanks, I'm sure I'm fine." Berrynose replied.

That isn't what you thought, before. Jayfeather thought, What a waste of my time. "Ok." Jayfeather forced himself to say, as he waved Berrynose with his tail near the entrance.

"You can go, now." Jayfeather mewed, Berrynose stared at him for a moment before speaking.

"I could help you look for herbs," Berrynose offered, a sound of warmth in his voice.

"Don't you have a Patrol to get to?" Jayfeather snapped.

"Nope!" Berrynose mewed. Great... Jayfeather thought.

"So, can I?" Berrynose mewed again.

"Why?" Jayfeather muttered.

"It's the least I could do," Berrynose said. "I do realize I wasted your time, Jayfeather." Berrynose purred. "So let me help you."

It would make my job easier, Jayfeather thought for a moment. "Fine," Jayfeather replied.

"Great!" Berrynose mewed, purring in delight. Was that excitement in his voice? Jayfeather thought.

"All right, after I've done sorting my herbs." Jayfeather said.

"Ok!" Berrynose purred.

After a few moments, Jayfeather was finished.

"Can we go, now?" Berrynose asked.

"Yes, we can." Jayfeather stopped himself from clawing the tom's ear, He's been asking forever! Jayfeather thought.

"Follow me.." Jayfeather muttered, padding outside the den with Berrynose skipping behind.

All right, we're almost done.. Jayfeather thought, as he picked some Poppy carefully.

He noticed Berrynose, the tom was tugging at the plant like a dog chewing on a cat.

"Stop!" Jayfeather mewed, to his surprise, Berrynose stopped. "I'll show you how to do it.." Jayfeather muttered, Berrynose blinked at him and moved away.

Jayfeather finished, waving his tail for Berrynose to follow.

When they were back, it was nearly sundown. Jayfeather sighed in exhaustion, managing to pad all the way back to the Medicine den.  "Oh, Starclan.." Jayfeather mumbled, heaving.

Jayfeather began to store the herbs he and Berrynose had brought back. Berrynose was still here to his surprise, Why are you still here? Jayfeather thought, as he finished.

"Berrynose, why are you still here?" Jayfeather asked.

"Oh--I just thought I'd catch my breath for a moment," He stammered, Something's up.. Jayfeather thought.

"Well, you must be done now." Jayfeather guessed. "You can leave, now."

"Uhm, you know what? Yeah, I'll actually do that.." Berrynose made his way through the bramble entrance, as Jayfeather began to flatten out his mossbed. Strange... He thought.
