Disclaimer: I do not own these characters and the majority of this story is just the songs from the musical written in a way that doesnt make it sound like everyone is randomly singing, so credit to Claude-Michael Schonberg for that. Enjoy!
Enjolras put his head in his hands. There were plenty of people joining the revolution and everything was going well, but that didn't stop him from worrying about what might happen. It also didn't stop the headaches that the stress gave him. But he had to ignore the pain, as another meeting was about to start. Vive le France, he thought.
When he walked into the main part of the cafe, noise instantly flooded his ears. His friends were all gathered in the cafe, chatting amongst themselves as they waited for Enjolras to begin the meeting.
Combeferre, Courfeyrac and Feuilly were sat around one table, Jehan and Lesgles sat at another and Joly, Marius and Grantaire sat around the table at the back of the room.
Grantaire had always fascinated Enjolras; he didn't believe in the cause, yet he came to every meeting just because he believed in Enjolras. He was sceptical, sarcastic and always drunk; but he was intelligent, easy-going and even friendly. He was attractive, too - or at least Enjolras thought so.
He shook the thought from his head. He did not have feelings for Grantaire. He couldn't be in love with anyone at all. He would be seen as a much weaker leader if he had anything other than the revolution on his mind, especially a love interest.
"Enjolras! Ready to start?" asked Combeferre, snapping Enjolras out of his thoughts.
"Yes." he replied, "Can we have some quiet, please?" He had to shout to be heard over the noise, but everyone immediately stopped talking.
"The revolution is growing ever nearer. More people join us everyday. Everything is going according to plan. By all means, celebrate, but be careful. Drunk or hungover men are not going to do us any good.
"Although there are many people joining the revolution, there are still many people who have not joined us. We need something that will get them to do so. If anyone has any ideas about what we could do, please let me know by the end of tonight." When Enjolras had finished his speech, Grantaire clapped sarcastically. Enjolras glared at him but Grantaire merely grinned and continued to drink his wine, despite Enjolras' warning.
Enjolras walked over to Combeferre and began discussing the plans for the revolution with him. But he couldn't help but overhear the conversation that Joly, Marius and Grantaire were having.
"Marius, are you alright? You don't seem yourself today." frowned Joly. He was probably just paranoid that Marius was ill. He always worried about these things.
"I saw the most beautiful girl today. All it took was one look and now I can't get her out of my head. She was gone before I even got the chance to introduce myself." Marius sighed.
"What? Marius in love? That's a first!" laughed Grantaire, before turning to Enjolras, "You're revolution is just around the corner and here is Marius, whining about a girl! It's like some sort of fairytale!"
Enjolras walked over to the table where Grantaire sat drinking his wine. He sat down and the brunette put down the bottle and looked at him.
"Is that what really interests you?" he asked Grantaire, "Fairytales? If that's so, then you shouldn't be here." He had to swallow his guilt when he saw the slight hurt in Grantaire's beautiful green eyes. Enjolras turned to Marius in an attempt to hide it. "Marius, you can't let this get in the way of the revolution. We need you. This isn't a game. We're going to change the world."
"Maybe if you had seen her you would understand. She took my breath away. Everything has changed since I saw her." Marius protested.
"Look, Marius, you're not a child anymore. It's very sweet that you've fallen in love but we have more important matters at hand. I'm sorry I'm giving you a lecture, but this is for the good of the whole of France and maybe even the world, not just us."
"It's okay, Enjolras, I'm being stupid. I'll focus from now on I swear."
"Good." Enjolras walked back over to Combeferre, but not before seeing the look of disappointment on Grantaire's face.
So, as I'm sure you all know, this chapter was based on the song "Red and Black", but the next chapter will be from my own head. Also, I'd like to let you guys know that I might not be able to post this chapter as frequently as I did in my fic called " The Library " as I have a huge English thing that's worth 25% of my GCSE grade (ahhhhhh help) but I will try to post as often as possible so please be patient! Thanks for reading and I hope you guys enjoyed!
