Slowly, I regained my sense of self. My head felt so heavy and I could already feel a pounding headache coming on. I squinted my eyes and let out a groan, rubbing at my eyes. "Lolo, thank God that you're awake."
I snapped my eyes open and froze, remembering what happened. Elena was staring at me from across the couch we were both on.
"Elena? What the fuck happened?" I asked, my voice low. Her cheek looked red and almost bruised. My anger spiked seeing that. "Vampires took us, Lolo. They hit me for asking too many questions," she let out a sniffle. I immediately hugged her and she hugged me back just as tight. I took that time to look around us.
We were in a mansion covered up with wooden boards and filled with dust. It looked abandoned, so that meant no one else knew we were here. I immediately looked for the hidden stake that was around my thigh, finding it still there. I showed Elena quietly and she nodded. I adjusted my green dress to cover the weapon.
I heard two voices fill the silence of the manor, one female and one male. Elena let go of me and whispered, "Stay here."
She slowly got up and walked over to the stairs, listening in. I could only hear bits and pieces as they were too far away.
Finally, one of the voices rose in anger. "I'm sick of running!" An equally loud voice replied, "Yeah? Well, running keeps us from dying." The female voice bit back, "Elijah's old school. If he accepts our deal, we're free." Out of nowhere, a creak filled the house. My head snapped towards Elena and saw her freeze, her foot on a step.
A thin figure made her way towards the steps, finally into my field of view. "You! There's nothing around here for miles. If you think you're getting out of this house, you're tragically wrong. Understand?" she snapped. She grabbed Elena's arm to walk her back to the couch. Elena stopped in her path and questioned boldly, "Who's Elijah?" The woman stopped and seethed, "He's your worst nightmare."
I sucked in a breath and clenched the seat cushion under me. The vampire's head snapped towards me and narrowed her eyes. "Finally you're awake," she said. My eyes widened as she made Elena sit next to me.
Elena asked, "Why am I here?" The vampire shook her head and said, "You keep asking me these questions like I'm gonna answer them."
"Why won't you?"
"That's another one."
"You got me, okay? It's not like we can go anywhere. The least you can do is tell me what you want with us."
"I personally want nothing; Trevor and I are just a delivery service."
"Delivery to who? Elijah?"
The two of them went back and for with questions while I just watched the two of them. Eventually, we found out that Elena is a doppelgänger of Katherine and that's why they look identical. My blood ran cold at the news of Elena dying to break the sun and moon curse.
I gripped her hand to comfort both of us. The male vampire soon entered the room with an amused tone. "Captivity has made her pushy, eh? What do you want to know doppelicious?" I rolled my eyes at his lame joke.
Elena asked, "Who were you running from?"
Trevor deadpanned, "The originals." Elena huffed, "Yeah, she said that. What does that mean?"
He answered, "The first family, the old world. Rose and I pissed them off." Rose gave him a withering look before he spoke again, "Correction, I pissed them off, Rose had my back and for over half a millennium, they wanted us dead."
I finally spoke, "What did you do?" Both of them seemed surprised at my speaking. "He made the same mistake countless others did: he trusted Katerina Petrova."
Elena mumbled, "Katherine." Rose rolled her eyes at the mention of her, "The one and only, the first Petrova Doppelgänger." Trevor spoke with a regretful tone, "I helped her escape her fate and now we've been marked ever since."
Rose bit out, "Which is why we're not gonna make the same mistake again."
"I still don't get why I'm here. I didn't ask for any of this," my voice broke the tense silence. The vampire looked at me and tilted her head, vaguely looking like a predator observing its prey. "I'm surprised you don't know, considering your bloodline."
My brow furrowed at that and I snapped at Rose. "Stop being vague and tell me what the hell you want with me," my jaw clenched, itching to jump at her. She chuckled tauntingly, "There's that famous temper."
My confusion only grew at that statement, anger quickly replacing it.
"Fuck you," I mumbled.
She narrowed her eyes, "What was that?"
Bravery powered through me, "I said 'Fuck you'. Don't bloodsuckers have good hearing or are you a defective one?"
Immediately, her face turned red with anger and she swung her fist at my face. I was partially able to avoid the quick hit and I reached under my dress and grabbed the stake, lunging towards Rose. I heard Elena shout my name before Trevor knocked me to the side, sending my body skidding towards a wall and slamming hard against it.
Pain instantly shot through my whole body, leaving me gasping for breath. "I thought you checked her for weapons!" Rose's frustrated tone shouted. "I did, I wasn't going to search up her dress!" Trevor shouted back.
My ears were ringing, muffling Elena's worried cries as she ran towards me. She helped me up, despite my stumbling.
She reached to touch the crown of my head, pulling back her blood-covered fingers. Her panicked expression told me just how bad it was. Trevor marched over to us and I tried to put distance between us but failed to do so.
He grabbed my arm roughly and I winced. He led me back to the old musty couch despite Elena's protest. "Leave her alone, she's already hurt." Trevor glared at her to shut her up and succeeded. He bit into his wrist and forced it against my lips. I tried moving away but he held his wrist until I drank his blood.
He finally released me and I gasped for air, feeling my pain go away. Elena checked the back of my head, "It's healed Lolo." My hair still was matted with blood and I felt disgusting because of it. I nodded and just closed my eyes, willing this nightmare to go away.
"Elijah isn't going to like seeing her hurt," Rose warned. "She's healed now, what more could he want?" Trevor snapped at her. They both stared at each other angrily before leaving the room, leaving Elena and me alone.
Despite the blood healing me, I still felt weak and dizzy. My stomach turned quickly and felt the contents of my stomach coming back up. I leaned over the arm of the couch and threw up, coughing as I did so. The blood that healed me pooled onto the old wooden floors.
Elena gasped softly, "Why did the blood not stay in you?" I shook my head and whimpered, "I don't know. I don't feel good."
Elena hugged me and I leaned into her. "I want to go home Lena," I whispered, childlike. Elena shushed me and replied, "We'll be ok, Lolo. Trust me."
Some time passed before Elena shifted in her seat. She furrowed her brow and pulled out a piece of lined paper. She read it before physically relaxing and showing it to me. Written on it, Stefan and Damon are coming for you both. -B
We were going to be okay.
