"My name is Jang Hyemi. I am sorry for coming empty-handed."
"Fancy to see you, dear." Mrs. Song mirrors Hyemi's polite greeting as she beams, gesturing towards the nearest leather armchair across from hers. "Have a seat."
Even my sons don't do that.
Formality is something the older woman hasn't heard in a while. Everyone in this mansion, including the maids, is likely a part of her family. She's prone to burst out laughing but holds herself back. Scaring her son's friend away stands nowhere on her bucket list, especially when it's the beginning of their very first meeting.
"I'll get going," Hongjoong announces, walking up to his mother and gives her a loving side hug. "You two have a good time together then."
Even his reassuring smile doesn't help Hyemi's nerves calm any less.
It's his fault for setting this last-minute meeting as if she was aware of its every part.
Yes. As if means the truth is far from that.
After she cried her heart out in his tender arms yesterday, her friend just randomly asked her to go with him today. He was so cryptic about the destination to the point Hyemi didn't mind questioning what his plan was anymore.
Until an hour ago, Hongjoong eventually revealed when they were on their way here.

- One hour ago -
"Can't you just tell me where we're going?" Hyemi asked, almost whining at the boy behind the steering wheel.
Hongjoong tried to bite back his smile. Her attempt to sneak intel from him appeared pleasing to the eyes. It melted his heart.
"There's this charity my mom is a sponsor. She always visits the orphanages to give the children gifts and play with them. But this year, she wants to make the kids cookies as well. And I think she will need your help."
"Why didn't you tell me sooner?"
A frown weighed on her face. He didn't have to see with his own eyes to confirm. The momentary drop of her tone was an execution of his conclusion anyways.
After all, he had a reason.
"Wouldn't you back off if you knew beforehand?" He questioned back, eyes still on the road.
Well, he has a point.
"But it's so...sudden." Her shoulders slumped. "I didn't prepare anything."
"You yourself is enough though."
She said nothing in response. Secret was never her thing, absolutely. For a few minutes, the two of them didn't crack a word. One needed to gather her nerves while the other needed his attention on the road.
