Alora's POV

As we strolled down the path, a mix of excitement and nerves bubbled up inside me. Alaric was leading the way to the portal, and let me tell you, this whole journey was way more awkward than I bargained for. We didn't talk much, even though I secretly wanted to. Whenever I got the chance, I'd sneak a quick glance at him. The tension between us was like electricity, like we were dancing on the edge of something way bigger.

From the corner of my eye, I caught Fiorella checking out the flowers, totally engrossed as she touched their delicate petals.

And then, there it was, the breathtaking sunset. I couldn't help but blurt out, "Wow, isn't this sunset just beautiful?" I shot a glance at Alaric, hoping to strike up a conversation.

Alaric glanced back at me and replied, "Not as beautiful as the smile on your face." He had this gentle smile playing on his lips, catching me completely off guard. My cheeks turned fifty shades of red, I swear.

"Cut it out, you smooth talker. You always know just what to say," I laughed, feeling my cheeks grow even warmer.

Alaric chuckled and playfully nudged my shoulder. "Well, Alora, I've had plenty of practice finding the right words for you. You've got this way of leaving me spellbound."

Just when things were getting cozy, Fiorella butted in, all mischievous-like. "Hey, guys, you won't believe this!" she exclaimed. "Look over there! There's a squirrel trying to snatch a cookie from that tree."

"What the hell? A squirrel going after cookies in a tree? Are we in some kiddie wonderland?" I blurted out, totally dumbfounded.

We turned our heads and, sure enough, there was a cheeky squirrel with its tiny paws reaching for a cookie. Fiorella's amusement was contagious, and we burst into giggles at the hilarious sight.

Alaric joined in, laughing. "That squirrel is almost as bold as someone I know."

I playfully nudged his arm. "Oh yeah? And who might that be?"

He grinned, mischief sparkling in his eyes. "You, Alora. You're always so daring and your spirit always leave me amazed."

At long last, we reached the portal, its shimmering glow beckoning us forward. Fiorella's eyes widened with wonder and excitement.
