Don't judge a book by its cover, right?

On the other hand, what if that book is tall, dark and rough around the edges, with a hard outer cover and lots of pages. Maybe than you would turn and ignore it. Damon Salvatore is similar to that frightening book you are too scared to open. If that is hard to image, picture an alley way; intimidating and alluring. It's dark and deep and makes you wish you hadn't approached. However the slightest sound or flash of light makes you curious and intrigued. Although your first instinct is to run and hide, you take that first step and surprisingly your hands stop shaking. As you continue further into the alley, the unsettling butterflies fly away and you aren't scared. Instead you feel safe and protected in its embrace.

Again this is a first judgment. If you spent the time studying the man behind the dark you would notice that Damon is tall, at least half a head taller than the average man. With a smooth, pale complexion that turns crimson in heat. Hair as dark as night, cut short, with strands that fall perfectly around his chiselled face. An expression that is hard and serious but occasionally accompanied by a smirk. One that curled and creased the skin around his cheek, which paired well with his eyes. His eyes are what sold me. Compared to the rest of him his eyes held passion, held life. Pure, vibrant and compelling blue eyes. You can tell a lot about Damon's emotion just by looking at them. For incidence when he is angry or upset, his eyes grow darker in shade and the veins within begin to bulge. In contrast, when he is relaxed or happy, his eyes are light and welcoming. Sadly, the days of crystal blue waters are overcome with the tremendous thunder clouds that have blocked that light.

Since the loss of his partner, Damon has died. His spirit has died. The hard exterior reveals someone strong and unaffected. But when you strip back the layers, turn the next page or step further into the alley, you will find a man who is falling apart. He would never admit it but he is human. Damon sees emotion as weakness and doesn't like others to believe he is nothing but his reputation. Confident, powerful and selfish. His partner once changed him though, to believe he is worth much more, and now that she is gone, this representation has returned. And a man such as himself, containing those traits, has assembled various enemies over the years, so having a weakness isn't an option. Instead he chooses to block out everyone and everything. Call it the switch on his humanity. And without this humanity, Damon Salvatore becomes a heart with no beat. Deadly.
