Chapter eight

Arthur saw that after talking with her father that Serena was in a slightly better mood and questioned her about it. "How come things are how they are with your parents?"

"Ah, I was wondering if you'd ask me about that. Let me place this to you simply so I don't go raging off about my 'mother'. When I was in the foot cast from Alice pushing me down the steps I went to talk to my mother about the medication to keep me from feeling pain. But instead of seeing my mother on her computer like she usually is, she was sleeping with our next door neighbor at the time. I was beyond revolted and I called my papa about it. He thanked me for telling him and he broke the marriage with my mother, all of the other kids saw my mothers side which was that my papa was being too irrational about things, but he and I knew the truth and tried to convince them which never worked. So...when the court date came up about us kids since I was still under aged my mother didn't want shared custody of us. She wanted full custody which she got, up to now I didn't have to nerve to leave, but..I think now's the perfect time to get out of there and live in peace with my papa who I know cares a lot for me." She said seriously

"I see, and your siblings don't see what you see?"

"No, and the thing with that is that my brother didn't even question the noises he heard from over the living room and the twins never said crap about it either. All three of them were in the house with me when it happened and they refuse to be against our mother, as for the younger ones they just go along with whatever the others say like little drones."

"Well it seems your family is more broken than it looks."

She looked to him flatly. "Oh thanks, that's just what I need to hear out of the one guy whose gotten on the good side of my papa." She said sarcastically

"I apologize love, it just seems to me that your family needs more than simple help from me."

She rose an eyebrow at him. "I don't think I follow."

He sighed a little and he placed his elbows on the table as he placed his hands together. "Love, I found out while sleeping last night why I am here in your time, I'm here to help your family out. The only rule with that is that I cannot go back until your family is 'normal' whatever that means."

She scoffed and rolled her eyes as she crossed her arms. She then sat back in her chair and looked towards the window. "Don't even get me started on the whole thing of my family. My elder siblings are lazy and my younger ones do whatever they wish as my mother just sits on her butt. The only reason my mom is able to live how she is right now is because of one time I was hit by a car who was running a red light as I was going to college one day. She sued who was the driver since they were drunk, talking on the cell phone and had done what they did. She got over one million dollars because of it as I only got another cast on me...I actually not that long ago got the cast off of me."

He looked to her sadly before he sat up straight. "Love, I'm sorry to hear that."

"Psh, its an every day damn life of living in America, which I hate." She said as she looked to him. "I'm sorta used to pain."

He frowned at her. "A girl like you shouldn't be saying something like that. No one should say that they're used to pain like that love." He said sincerely to her

She sighed and placed her head down on the table over her arms. "Well I have and I think I always will too...I have this consistency of always getting hurt Arthur. Whether its by the idiots outside of my home or by my siblings who have many times said straight to my face that they hate my guts."

Arthur placed a hand on the top of her head as he looked to her sadly. "Love, you've been through so much haven't you?" He asked

She nodded slightly as their drinks came to the table, when the waiter place the drinks down he gave her a note. She read it curiously only to see it was from her father.

"Good grief...This is embarrassing." She said as she placed the note down.

"What is that love?" Arthur asked confused

She handed it to him instead of speaking and he opened the folded letter to see neat print writing. |I can see you two from where I am, you two make a good couple. Should I expect grand children from you?|

His face turned bright red as he gave it back to her. "H-He's not serious is he?" Arthur asked nervously

"I don't know, he might be picking on me or he might not be. I-If he's not and he really does see you as a good match for me...I..I wouldn't know what to do or say. He's never done something like this before. Honestly I've taken two other guys here because they gave me the same sort of compassion you have towards me in the respects of my family. But neither one of them cared enough about my feelings to really make a good impression on my papa as you have." Serena said with a shrug
