Marcello left and I'm somewhat alone.
I stay in my spot, wondering if they're looking for me altogether. That is their smartest, and worst choice.
I walk through the forest taking the lightest steps possible. The only sounds being heard are those of birds chirping. Squirrels run around breaking sticks making me slightly lose focus.
Then, I hear nothing.
Not a chirp, not a stick. Just nothing.
I stand still with my eyes open trying to adjust to the dark, letting the moonlight guide them.
Breathing. To my left. It's heavy. It's human.
Crack
The sound alerts me and I put my gun up high.
A bald man runs out the side of the bush with a spearhead. I dodge him causing him to fall face forward, having the spearhead collide with him instead.
Pathetic.
He twitched there as the spear pierced his chest. I pull it out of him and have his blood cover my hands. I snap it in half with my knee and while he lays on his stomach I place the spear through his skull.
I looked around us to see he was alone. Hearing and seeing nobody around I continue to walk.
The piercing cold stung my face and hands. My breath came out as a white fog and my eyes watered at the touch of the freezing air. My hands shook and begged for me to put them in my hoodie pocket. But I couldn't. One second off guard and I'd be dead.
As I walked thoughts of Nathaniel popped up. Thoughts of things that happened to the both of us while we were at war. I haven't been in a situation like this in a while, but my body knows what to do. How to kill. As if it wants to kill at every chance it gets. Nathaniel he, he had the option to not turn into a killer. He could have left. But he stayed. And now he's, different.
I remember who he was before this. How his hair flowed, how his body was, and especially how he made me feel.

"I don't know Maddie, my mom says if I go to the military she'll disown me. She doesn't want me to end up like my papa." He says lying in my lap. My hands combed through his flowing blonde hair. The wind made his hair fly up and down. His beautiful green eyes stared up into the sky as he fiddled with the string to his sweats.
"That's understandable, but nothing she should disown you over. If the military is something you want to do then do it. If your mother loves you then she will accept whatever you do." He turns his body around and crawls up to my face making me smile.
The wind presses against my ears and my heart pumps in my ears.
He pulls a flower from the meadow and places it behind my ear.
"Forget my mother. As long as I am with you, mi amor." My smile goes wider as his lips press into mine.
His tongue presses onto my lips signaling for me to open them. Our tongues explore each other's mouth, letting the saliva combine. The taste of each other feels as intoxicating as alcohol. His hands travel my body eager for more.
"I love you Madeline, god, I love you so much." He says leaving my lips to my neck. "I love your lips, I love your hair, and lord, I love how much you care for us." Each word pierced me, not with pain but with pleasure and love. I never want to escape him or his touch.

The memory popped into my mind. My mind became so busy I nearly missed the bright reflection of a light that hit my eyes.
Metal.
The moon had hit a metal object and made it reflect on me. I move toward the right of the object's reflection seeing another man, smaller but still big like the previous man. He was off guard and couldn't see me.
If I shoot, it alarms everyone where I am. I have to be sneaky.
The man crouches and tries to hide behind a bush, probably waiting for me to walk there to try and kill me. I walked behind the bush, careful to not snap any twigs or step on any leaves, luckily, the ground was mud, muting most of my walking.
As I approached right behind the man I put the gun in my left hand and swiftly wrapped my right arm around the man's neck. He can't let out any noise and tries to roll me on the ground, but, I snap his neck before he musters up the strength. His body falls and I see he has a sniper with him. And his belt was the metal reflecting the moonlight.
The gun would have most definitely killed me if I had been shot by it.
Right as I was about to stand back up a grunt was heard from behind me along with footsteps.
I tumble forward as I try to get away from the person behind me and I hear a loud slam as they slip on the muddy ground.
His face is covered in mud and his vision is impaired. He gets up holding a gun shooting in random directions. He's stunned temporarily as he wipes the mud from his eyes. I take my chance and shoot him point-blank between his eyes. The other two have to be on their way from the gunshots.
I look at my options and see a humongous tree.
This will have to suffice.
I put the gun in the waistband of my pants and climb the tree.
I'm probably 100 feet off the ground and two men run with each other.
"O que... ela pegou Julien o Pablo!" One of the men yells at the other. "Idiotas!"
Portuguese.
"Ela nao pode estar longe." The other says. My hands are in front of me. I relax my body and focus on the two men. I wait for their bodies to align just right and as the other starts consoling the other, he moves in front of his.
Gotcha.
I press the trigger of the gun and in a matter of seconds, the two men drop to the floor. I wait to see if any of the bodies move or twitch but nothing happens.
I'm done. I won.
I climbed down the tree looking at each body making sure all were dead. The gun still gripped in my hand the sound of skin slapping together is loud behind me.
I turn around gun in hand only to see Marcelo.
"Holy, you really were right." he says clapping. "I'm pressive really, but I'd say you got lucky more than you actually did impress me." He says with a large grin. I scoff with my pointer finger itching at the trigger.
"I wouldn't do that if I were you, the people visiting us to meet you wouldn't be so happy." He says walking towards.
"What do you mean by that."
"I mean, the Marquez's are impressed by you. They want to meet you. Now." He's right infront of me now hand around my wrist.
"What if I don't want to go."
"Sucks to be you then."
