Laborious screams bounced off the walls of the small bedchamber as her husband clutched her hand.
"Just one more push ma'am," the midwife pressed with encouragement.
"When this is over Augustine, you are never allowed near me again," the woman cried out as she mustered through the pain and pushed. Augustine smiled sheepishly to the midwife which quickly turned into a look of confusion as the midwife ushered the newborn away, her face painted with surprise.
"Where is my child?" The exhausted mother asked.
"Right here ma'am," the midwife said as she rushed in with the crying child now wrapped in a blanket,
"It's a girl Mrs. Dahlia, but I must warn you," she hesitantly explained, "She seems to be peculiar." The woman hastily gathered her child into her arms who smiled and cooed at the feeling of being held by its mother. Peering back at the mother was a pale face which held two reddish pink eyes and pure white tufts of hair.
"There's nothing wrong with her health is there?" The woman asked while gazing at her daughter in wonder.
"Nothing as far as I can see ma'am." The midwife replied honestly.
"Then she is perfect." Augustine replied reaching out to the baby's tiny hand, "What should we name her Camille?" The now father questioned his wife.
"Reine." Camille stated with confidence.
"Perfect, our little flower." Augustine exclaimed with joy kissing the girl on her head gently.

The girl ran through the vibrant flower shop weaving between shoppers like a nimble fox. The freshly arranged vase in Camille's hands missing the floor by a hair as the energetic child blazed a trail of chaos.
"Reine, no running in the shop!" Camille yelled after her free-spirited daughter as she disappeared behind a wall of Daffodils.
"Augustine, rein in your daughter, would you?" Camille exhaled to her husband.
"But my love, it's the first day of spring!" He chortled, only to receive a glare from his wife.
"How about I take her with me to deliver the churches new centre piece. The walk will allow her to get rid of some energy." Augustine thought aloud to his beloved. She smiled gratefully as Augustine enlisted the energetic girls help. She ran into the street reaching up to the sun in an attempt to grasp its warmth.
"Come along my dear, these flowers won't deliver themselves." Augustine called out to Reine as she ran to help her father push the cart to the church.
While the florist was busy setting up the flowers the curious girl took it upon herself to explore the grand church that was Notre Dame. She crept up a narrow set of stairs until she reached a hatch and as she pushed it open, she stumbled upon the unexpected. A boy, around her age was peering down at the people milling below. She crept slowly towards him until she was an arm's reach away from him.
"What are you doing?" She asked curiously. The boy jumped from his place and quickly used his cloak to cover his face.
"You're not meant to be here." His voice quivered with fear as he tried to conceal himself.
"I wouldn't be looking down if I were you, I would be looking up at the sun." She continued on as if he hadn't spoken as she stared at the glowing ball of fire.
"What's your name?" Gaining no response from the mysterious boy she spoke again, "My name is Reine." She said as she confidently offered her hand.
"Quasimodo." He replied meekly as the girl shook his hand. "You and I are going to be great friends, I can tell." Reine stated with a wink as she went back to looking up at the sky.
