Little Doe

"Everyone! Hey, over here!" The owner of the shop yells out to everyone here to see me.

He waves his hand to get their attention.
"If you want Miss Darcy to sign your book, line up in an orderly fashion - don't just push and shove people!"

Sitting at the booth, I wait for the first person to come up. Tapping my fingers together nervously, I see a girl, probably about 17, make her way up to me.

"Oh my god, I can't believe this is happening!" She screeches.

I give a soft smile.
"You're this excited to meet me?" I say giggling.

She gives a shocked look. "Well of course! You're my fav Author." She says while abbreviating the word favorite. "My favorite book is 'She Is Mine.' Alex is just - ughhh." She says groaning in a sexual manner.

I laugh. "Well, you know how we all like our book men." I say. "psychotic and hot."

The girl smiles at me and hands out her book.
Opening the first page, I put my pen close to the paper.
"What's your name hun?"

The girl clasps her hands together. "Abagail! But my friends call me Abby."

Putting my pen on the book, I start writing.
To Abby,
Thank you for being such a kind young girl and for reading my book. Never change who you are. For anyone.

'Between the moon and the stars, I will always find you little one, we are destined to be, til the end of time.'

With love, Darcy.

I close the book and hand it over to Abby.
"Thank you so much! I love how you added Alex's famous quote."

Standing up, I bend over and give her a hug.
"It was so nice to meet you, thank you dearly."

After Abby leaves, I wait for the next person to come up. I grab for my pen and open the cap. Looking up, something catches my eye. I see, in the crowd, a man with his hood up. This can't be that same asshole of a man I ran into earlier (literally) right? Looking towards him, I see him staring directly at me. Everyone is pushing and shoving to get around him, but he makes no sudden movements, keeping his eyes locked on mine. Those eyes. No, I'm probably just seeing things. He walked the other direction while I was walking inside the store. I shake my head at myself and look down.

The next person walks up to me, saying something but I don't quite listen. My eyes dart to where the hooded person was standing, but to my surprise, they were gone. Yeah, I definitely was imagining things. He just made me angry earlier by not helping me up, in the back of my mind I must have still been salty about it.

Getting caught up in my own thoughts, I get diverted back to reality.

"Uh, are you okay?" The boy asks.

Looking up, I stare into his eyes. I give a soft smile.
"Yeah - yeah, sorry. I was just spacing out for a bit. Lots of ideas for a new book I've been thinking about." I lie.

The young boy smiles. "Wow! Is it going to be a sequel to 'She Is Mine?" He says excitedly, clapping his hands.

I wish I didn't have to lie to one of my fans, but I couldn't let him know that I just had a hallucination about a man I barely even know. They would think I was crazy. Don't need that going around the internet.

"Well, you never know." I laugh half heartedly.

This is going to be a long afternoon. This is too much social interaction for myself. Maybe tonight I'll treat myself with some Chinese food, reward myself for getting out of my introverted state.

.....

The signing is over. Thank god. Not to disrespect anyone, but it just takes a toll on me. After everyone left, I packed up my things and headed out.

I get back to my home where everything is still a mess. Before I call in for Chinese food, I decided to pick up the mess that I left here. This is going to be a two person job. Maybe if I bribe Liz with some Chinese food, she'll come help me with all the cleaning.

Going over to the coffee table where I left my phone, I go to reach for it but something catches my eye.

A note.

The fuck is this? I didn't leave this here.

Picking it up, I look over it and I read;

'Such a sweet girl with fire in her blood. I cannot wait to ravage you. All of you. I will have every last drop of your soul. Yours Truly'

And on the side of the table, where the note had been, is a small flower, which pedals have a carved indentation of a deer - a doe.

What the actual fuck. Did someone come into my home? How did they even get in, I locked the front door before I left!

Freaking out, I decided to call Liz. I can't be here alone tonight. Not with a random note left from a freak who broke into my house.

"Hey girl, I was just about to call you to ask i-" I cut her off before she could finish her sentence.

"Someone was in my house while I was gone.. I don't know what to do. Can you please come over?" I say rushing out the words as if my life depended on it.

It sounds as if Liz gasps. "What? How do you know, are you okay?"

Pacing back and fourth, I run my hands through my hair. "I'm okay, I wasn't home when it happened. All I know is that they left a note... and something else."

I can hear Liz grabbing for her car keys through my cell phone. "Okay, I will be there as soon as I can."

I shake my head up and down, as if she can actually see me.
"Okay, see you soon, and please hurry."

Hanging up the phone, I walk over to my bay window that is in my living room.
Looking through it, it's as if I see someone standing there in the dark, waiting and watching me. The figure steps closer into the light that is shone from my porch.

The person that is in front of my house looks tall. Muscular. I cannot see any facial features about them. I can only see one thing:

A mask.

A mask with x's for the eyes. Cracks all over it. Jesus Christ.

I take a step back. Placing my hand on my chest, my breathing heavy. Looking down, I go to grab my phone from my back pocket, getting ready to call anyone. Someone. When I look back up, outside of the window with the phone in my hand, they are gone. Disappeared out of sight.

What the hell is going on?
