The Moon

Dave looked up at the Earth with nostalgia, and a tinge of regret. His friend Clive walked up to him while eating a banana and said,

“Want some dinner?”

“You know that’s illegal.”

“What, eating dinner?”

“No, bananas. How did you get it through customs?”

Clive smiled at Dave pityingly. “When you’re as blessed as I am, people make life easy for you.”

Dave scowled and continued to look out the window of the lunar compound. He deeply resented the wealth of everyone else on the moon, but he knew that he was only there because of Clive’s prestige, as well as their agreement. He pulled on his eyebrows, a nervous twitch.

“Let’s go then.” Dave said, after a while.

Clive looked at his watch, “Are you sure you don’t want to change first?”

“Why,” Dave asked through gritted teeth, “are you worried I’ll make you look like a laughing stock?”

Clive sighed, and smoothed down the creases in his dress suit. “Let’s just go, otherwise we’ll be late.” They started walking to the buggy. Dave caught a glimpse of himself in the mirrored tiles, arranged on the wall in the mosaic.
