There you were, on a LCVP, on the way to the Normandy, Ohama Beach. All while squished against some other US soldiers, you stood beside your buddy: Robert Zussman.
"Y/N, got a light?" Zussman asked, nudging you with a cigarette in between his lips. He adjusted his helmet, giving you a warm smile.
"Of course, here."
You took the Zippo from your thin US uniform, flicked it open, then trying a few times before the flame finally ignited. Zussman leant in, as the tip of his cigarette finally burnt to life.
He smiled yet again, patting you on the back. You smiled back, looking back at your dirty hands, before your Lieutenant, Turner, spoke up,
"Remember, no digging up at the shore, you gotta advance. You need to stay low, and do not bunch up. You stick to your training you're gonna make it through. I'm proud to lead you fellows into battle. Anytime, anywhere."
A smile came to your face, Turner was always there for you, but also because you were a rookie.
"Alright, give'em hell, boys!" Aiello yelled a few seconds after Turner's little speech, raising his rifle into the air.
"The beaches are supposed to be flattened right?" Zussman remarked, peeking over the large metal ramp, trying to see the beach better.
"You sound scared, Private." Pierson replied to Zussman, who looked back at the Sergeant.
"No sir."
"You should be."
A few seconds passed, before a large amount of bullets began spraying over the LCVP you were in.
"EVERYBODY, GET DOWN!" Turner yelled, you immediately ducked down like the rest, hoping to not be shot before you even reached the shore.
"Watch out!" A soldier shouted, before a bomb exploded near the LCVP, splashing water on all the soldiers.
"GET DOWN!" Another shout, followed by another explosion. The bombs were deafening, along with the splashes of water as the LCVP hit the water.
"500 yards!"
"We gonna have to pull off!" A soldier shouted, raising his voice to get over the loud noises of gunfire, explosions and the splashes.
"No, we stay on mission. You're taking us in." Turner replied, his voice getting cut off by another rain of gunfire.
"We must've drifted, I can't see the landmarks!" The soldier said, sounding a little panicked as he tried to peek up, but also not get shot.
"You heard the lieutenant, full speed!" Pierson shouted, cutting off the soldier.
"INCOMING!"
Another explosion, but even closer to the LCVP. It sent a ring through your ears, which was painful. You'll have to survive the horrifying sounds of war at the beach, of men screaming, gunfire and dozens of explosions.
"Hold tight!"
"200 yards!"
"20 seconds!"
"Same plan, get to the seawall!" Turner shouted
"Kopelson! Y/N! Get the bangalore to the wire, fast!" Pierson shouted right after Turner's order
"Everybody ready! Here we go!"
"Drop the ramp!"
"There's no cover!" The soldier tried to protest, before being cut off by Pierson yet again.
"That was an order, goddamnit! Drop it!" Pierson snarles, as the ramp is dropped.
You looked at the beach, before being interrupted by another LCVP crashing into yours. You stumbled, dropping to the floor. Some soldiers regained their balance and stood back up, before being immediately hit by a ray of gunfire. A soldier dropped onto you, dead, soaking bits of your uniform in their blood.
"OVER THE SIDES!" Turner yelled
You groaned, pushing the soldier off of you, before getting up and climbing onto the side and jumping into the water.
Turner grabbed you by the collar, almost getting hit by a bullet
"Get your head down and keep moving!" He said sternly, before running off.
You sighed, this is gonna be a real tough fight..
