Riki met Jiho while he was in university, in one of the combined classes between third and first years. Riki had just entered the university and didn't know anyone except the head teacher, Jungwon. Almost everyone at the university had heard of Jiho. He was the most popular player on the basketball team - a leader that led the team to victories more than once. He was tall and well built, with eyes as dark as night, a sharp nose, high cheekbones and dark short hair. He has several earrings in each of his ears and a piercing on his lip. Riki still doesn't know why he decided to talk to him that day - an unremarkable freshman, quiet and modest.

"Hi, I'm Kang Jiho," he says, sitting up to him and extending his hand, embarrassing Riki. He blinks a few times, looking at the third year student before shaking his hand back and introducing himself.

"I'm Nishimura Riki," he replies quietly, averting his gaze in embarrassment. "Nice to meet you," Jiho finally lets his hand out of his and breathes a little easier. Riki is still uncomfortable in a new country and around strangers. He's embarrassed that the attention of almost the entire class is focused on him and the most popular guy, but the older man doesn't seem to be embarrassed, as he turns to him again. They have a nice conversation before the professor arrives, learning a little more about each other.

At the time, Riki had recently moved to Korea and wasn't quite fluent in the language yet, so he often stuttered or mixed up words, but Jiho never commented on it. After the class was over, he invited him for coffee and a couple weeks later he introduced him to his friends Sunoo and Sunghoon. They seemed nice enough to Riki, and they even had some common topics of conversation, but deep down inside he was troubled by doubts. He was sure that there was something behind Jiho's actions. Why would a popular guy, with tons of girls chasing him, be interested in someone like him?

Riki tried to convince himself that maybe he was exaggerating and he shouldn't think so badly of Jiho. But there were plenty of rumors hovering around the guy, albeit unsubstantiated. Nevertheless, his interest, courtship and compliments still managed to overpower the doubts. After a couple of months they started dating, and it was like a fairy tale. Jiho courted him, behaved like a gentleman, gave him gifts and often took him on dates. Riki always attended basketball games and practices and supported his boyfriend. It seemed that nothing could destroy the harmony and idyll, but away from prying eyes everything was different.

There is no trace of the former Jiho - nothing left of the sweet and caring guy who won his heart. Now he is a cold, rude and bitter man. He began to ridicule him in front of his friends: his accent, the way his voice sounded, his demeanor, the way he dressed; Riki silently swallowed the insults, listening to the barbs in his address, but in private expressed his discontent with Jiho, which was his biggest mistake. The guy didn't like it, and that's when he raised his hand at him for the first time. It hurt not only physically but mentally as well. The person you loved and trusted hurt you so badly. Hurtful words and jokes he could get over and ignore, but physical abuse, no.

Riki tried to say he was wrong again, but got another slap in return. Jiho slammed him into the wall and squeezed his throat with his hand, threatening that if he raised his voice at him again, it would go beyond a beating, but Riki wasn't afraid. He hit him back and tried to run out of their rented apartment, but unfortunately he failed. The guy abused him that day, raped him and took pleasure in his misery. No matter how much he tried to resist, it was all to no avail. Riki seemed to lose a part of himself then, something inside him died. He turned from a cheerful but modest guy into a fearful and silent one. After that incident, he silently endured all the beatings, nasty words that poisoned his heart and mind. Each blow had gotten deep under his skin, reminding him of it every time he looked in the mirror. Riki stopped liking himself after his lean body was adorned only with bruises of different colors. He hated seeing his own reflection.
