I kicked off the blanket and jumped to my feet. I started to run but then stalled for a second, deciding whether to take the blanket or not, but then I realised how stupid it was to wait around because of that, so I left it and headed off in the general direction of where Freddie's cry had come from.
On the way I hit my knee against a sharp branch that was sticking out of a tree, creating a deep and painful wound in my leg. Yes, it hurt, in fact it hurt a lot, but I couldn't stop, for all I knew Freddie was dying, and I couldn't live with myself if I knew that I could've helped him, when I didn't, so I kept on running.
I ran and ran, following the sound of Freddie's shrieks, and i eventually came to an open space and in the centre he was lying in the snow. He struggled to move but I couldn't see what was keeping him down, when an arrow hit him.
I rushed over to him, pulling out the arrow when I got there. He was gasping for air and was getting paler and paler by the second. I knew he was on his way out but I couldn't admit it to myself. he meant way too much to me to just let him go.
Then he went silent. I looked down and saw that he had stopped moving, but the blood was still pouring out from the wound the arrow had left in his chest. I checked for his pulse but there wasn't any. This was so unfair, he was only 12, this is barbaric, how could they do this.
I was so hit with the sudden grief of Freddie's loss, that I couldn't move. I saw an angered looking boy racing towards me, swinging his blood stained sword around his head. I closed my eyes and awaited the sharp pain that was to follow......but it didn't come. I looked up and saw the boys body lying on the ground, and a girl, who's name I remember as Jasmina, was running towards me at full speed, with the boys sword in her hand.
I found my feet and got up to run away. I managed to run for a few metres when i tripped on a rock that had been hidden underneath the snow. I looked up and saw Jasmina above me.
Then everything went white. That was all I could see. White everywhere. And then, in the distance, I saw a figure. It was a male, a young male, in a white suit matching shoes, and a white rose pinned to his blazer.
He started to walk up to me and then I recognised him. It was Freddie.
I tried to ask him where we were and what had happened, but it just came out in a gurgle. He told me it would be ok, and that we were safe now. Forever. And I suppose, it will be now.
My name Is Orla Richie. And this is my story.
